Can someone please recommend the be all and end all of winter boots for someone who has larger feet (13) That are water proof to a point of view and warm and aggressive enough for the odd hike a bike. Ive tried the Lake mx303 but they were very cumbersome, like steal toecaps..

Bontrager old man winter were game changers from a. Long term winter boot user....

If you want warm it's going to be insulated. If it's going to be insulated it's going to be larger than a normal shoe.

Yeah, the dampness of Britain may cause the fir to clump. The zip will make exit easy when you cold hands though.

I have a pair of Scarpa leather mountain boots, 22 years old which have never let the water through. It said on the label gurentied to keep water out when submerged for 12 hours (I assume up to the ankle). they're warm due to thickness, no steel toe but the ends are still hard as ....

I'm guessing these are decendants.

@petec - You should check out the rest of the search!

Just started wearing my new Winter boots

this week.

Had Northwave boots for the last few winters and thought I would upgrade to the cuffed model as this might mean not having to bother with overshoes* .Boy are they tight to get into,I thought I was going to dislocate my ankles the first time 🙂 . Very comfi so far and I got the high viz ones just for extra measure 🙂

* I also got a set of these cuffs if I want to double up the seal on really horrible days.

Ive always struggled with fur matting after longer rides and it can be a bitch to clean. as it is ive found a retailer with a set of northwave raptors in my size at £100 so with regret at this point ive answered my own question.

Been looking myself. Northwave arctics seem to the warmest commonly available boots (I am a 47 so usually a 48 in winter boots). Find them clumpy on the mtb though, cuff caught on the cranks twice last ride too. From what I read Shimano Mw7 with waterproof/thermal socks might be best compromise, neoprene cuff can soak up the water and they're fairly similar to the ME7 enduro shoe apparently (which I have and love).

I've had northwave shoes for years, they're great. Add a set of knock-off aldi sealskins inside for really cold days.

Always use Gripgrab gaiters, pointless having waterproof boots without them IMO.

I sent Northwave back after neoprene started to come away. So tight to get on. I’ve not got wide or fat!! feet. Ended up with MW7 which I would say are warmer. Toe box is bigger and lots more wiggle room. Grip grab gaiters when it’s really wet.

45North knows what it's on about too - https://45nrth.com/products/footwear

Edit - just seen your grumble about the 303s. You might not like the Wolvhammers then 🙂

I'm a big fan of the Shimano XM9, which come in at least a size 47 or 48... Like a winter hiking boot, does up with old fashioned laces too.

Have lake 303's, MW7's and Planet x Das boot and the planet x are the warmest by far in freezing conditions. Very impressed with them for the money.

As I wrote this yesterday i did notice wiggle had the Northwave raptor artic gtx boots in my size (coccotheclown 49) at £99 , they arrived this morning and ive just done a 20 miler in Saddleworth temp was just above freezing as the sun set and needless to say the boots have paid for themselves already. Perfect fit with wiggle room , nice and warm and i have to say very light, much lighter on the legs than my Mavic h2os . Happy bunny, have a sunset image

Cheers - was going to avoid the Raptors due to the neoprene cuff separating issues but at £90 with a £10 voucher I figure they're worth a punt and will just try and be careful taking off and on. Having warm feet is the most important thing to me, doesn't matter how good they are for hike a bike etc. if I can't feel my feet!

Cracking photo too
