[Closed] Will I be disappointed by Sektors?

Need some new forks for a 29er and have seen some Sektors at a very good price. I have had Rebas and Revs in the past and was wondering how the Sektors compare. I know they will be heavier but will performance be worse enough to make me wish I had waited to afford some better forks?

They'll be on par (ish) with the rebas as damping similar.

Revelations (depending on year/model) have better dampers so perform better.

I have Sektors, I've found them to be generally great forks. My only issue is I found they didn't perform great on small repetitive high speed hits.

I'd agree with ferrals above, until I put on Mavic Charge tyres, smoothed the whole setup right out. Then saw a mag, this one {?} mentioning they felt the same, so it must be true....
Other tyres that do the same are available, probably.

As an average Jo Mountainbiker, I can't really tell the difference between my sectors and my revs )on different bikes). This may say more about me than the forks though, but I'm not sure.

They're basically longer travel Rebas.

I think the only say I can tell a difference between my Revs and Sektors is by looking at them. After I look at them, my brain tells me they must be better. Otherwise I can't tell a noticeable difference.

The Sektors that came 2nd hand on my 2013 Five S have been a revelation (no pun intended).

I'm amazed by the small bump performance and the big hits they take get sucked up really well. Love them. Brilliant forks.

Did a DH race (my first) on them a few weeks ago. Ok, I came last in my category but up against DH bikes you'd expect that and I didn't have my Alpine (it was away getting the FIT4 upgrade!) and it was a pure mud fest too - never ridden anything like it. Anyway. It wasn't because of the forks that I came last that's for sure.

Spent a weekend at BPW on them too and I've raced XC with them too.

They are so good it made me question how good my 2013 Fox Factory 34s were and it turns out not as good as they should have been. I've just had them upgraded to FIT4 and they're now better than the Sektors.

Still, definitely not supposed-to-be twice the value worth better than the Sektors but you can't get 26in 160mm Sektors and they might flex at that length anyway.

The Sektor's Motion Control damper can be a little "noisy" sometimes on rebound compared to the Fox dampers but that's nothing unless it annoys you. Nothing wrong with them performance wise.

140mm 26in 15mm. 65-70PSI. 75kg kitted up. Few clicks of rebound.

Had 120mm Reba's on a previous bike that were very good for a while until they had some kind of internal issue with their rebound and went very harsh after that. Managed to get them repaired under warranty but I'd sold the bike they were on by the time it was sorted out and bought the Five instead. Was skeptical about having RS on it again but so far, so good.

Next job is to get the Sektor's serviced. Hope they remain as good as they currently are after the service.

yeah to be fair after getting mine serviced and fettling the rebound a bit i got smallbump good too.
I guess the key thing to say about them is you don't notice them-always a good sign ๐Ÿ™‚

I had some 2014 140mm 29" Sektors on my 5 29 from new. They were OK, not bad at all but not as plush as the 2015 Revs that came on my mates Parkwood (Which in turn are not as good as my other pals Pike).

They felt very much like the Revs I had back in 2010/11ish. I'm not a huge fan of RS so changed them for some 2014 Fox 34's which are a much better fork IMO.

Back to the original question... Will you wish you got a better fork? Yes. Will this regret be big enough to spoil your enjoyment of the Sektors? Probably not.

I've had a lot of expensive forks and damper tunes/upgrades. I now have a set of coil Sektors and found them perfectly acceptable.

I've also replaced all the bling components with Deore, and that is also decent. Certainly hasn't spoiled my enjoyment of riding in any way whatsoever, and I don't feel so bad if I bin it and write off a 6 hour old mech ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Is a good description of Sektors. Nothing more, nothing less.

There's different levels of sektor so it depends which internals they have.

Rock Shox have a fork for every day of the year and if I'm honest I've been underwhelmed with every one that was a perceived upgrade

The law of diminishing returns strongly applies and unless you're going from something truly awful to something really good then the differences between one Perfectly Acceptable fork and another are, ime, minimal

Yep - I opened up a Sektor R at one point, and discovered that it had no compression damper at all. There's a black plastic cap on the top of the right leg, with nothing at all underneath.

I had some dual coil sektors with the motion control damper and was really impressed. That bike was stolen and the next time around I had some revelations with the rapid rebound motion control damper, they felt better with fast successive hits but it didn't feel like a big upgrade. I've now got some pikes and the charger damper feels like a big upgrade. So I'd say sektors are a great choice unless you want to spend big.

I really liked my dpc Sektors, also enjoyed the lack of things to go wrong compared to the air forks ive previously broken.

Surely it had something on the damper side? Left side has the black cap with either a coil or air spring. Right side is the damper. Even the most basic model should have something in there unless it's been nicked or left the factory without it on accident???

Bob, no the R models, just have a rebound damper and a top cap.

They're not great TBH.
