Just ordered a bargaintastic Edge 500. I already have a basic 200. Is the 500 compatible with my polar HRM strap ? Don't use one enough to justify a garmin specific one...

Polar straps are not ANT+.
Most Polar straps use Polar's own protocol, some newer ones are Bluetooth or Bluetooth Smart, none of these will work with a Garmin.
