[#6458874]

I bought 2 places from Wiggle for their Sportive last month in the Cotswolds, one for me, one for my Dad. Just under 2 weeks before the event I was struck down with a trapped sciatica nerve and my Dad had a chest infection, so I logged onto Wiggle and hit the refund button that was showing against my order. It said it was being processed. The other option I had was to sell them on here / to mates but decided a refund might be better. The day after the event I got an email saying that they couldnt refund, it was British Cyclings position to refund but as the event had passed it was unlikely. I bought from wiggle, not 'Wiggle acting on behalf of British Cycling'. Mailed them back saying that it sits with them, I gave them lots of notice to refund (Sorry sir we are very busy at the moment...) and that BC were unlikely to refund but they would look into it. That was 4 weeks + ago and nothing back and certainly no refund.

It all seems a bit too coincidental that they mailed back to say no the day after the event. The refund button was on my order page.

I guess I am screwed but feel pretty sore about it. I guess this rant is just a be careful of this happening to you and it had really, really put a dent in my trust in Wiggle (I used to order everything from them). Case of getting too big without the CS to support it?!?

What do their Ts&Cs say about refunds for events rather than products?

I think that applies to MOST big companies, which is why i try to use as many small ones as i can.

I think I would have called them after a week.

Ts and Cs:

What if I need to change my details, the event distance or cancel my order?
If you need to change any of your booking details or cancel your order please contact the event organiser via their website or refer to your entry pack. Be ready to quote your Wiggle order number and event unique ID.

These events are organised by UK Cycling Events and and sponsored by Wiggle (Wiggle also facilitate the processing of payment), so I'm not sure as what this has to do with British Cycling? Although technically speaking, your contract is probably with Wiggle as you paid them, but they will probably argue that they only process the payment on behalf of UKCE.

Looking at the terms on the UKCE website, it states clearly, that entry fees are non refundable.

17 - Event entry fees can not be refunded or transferred under any circumstances.

Also on the Wiggle website

If you have any questions regarding delivery please email martin@ukcyclingevents.co.uk

Returns Information
Event entry fees cannot be refunded or transferred under any circumstances.

UK Cycling Events reserves the right to cancel any event, due to extreme weather conditions. In such a event, each participants entry with be automatically moved to the rescheduled event. As above, it clearly states "no refunds" on the page for each sportive (on the delivery/returns tab). If they do then have a "refund" button next to the order (as with a normal order) then that's probably something they should sort out though as it's a bit odd.

I'm partial to a good rant post but it really helps if the ranter has got their facts straight first.

We could have a good debate about if events should always offer full or partial refunds but you entered one that clearly states that it doesn't so having a bitch about it after entering is a little late and pointless.

Oh, and you can say crap as much as you like without trying to avoid the swear filter. Crap. Crap. Crap.

Trying to get a refund on a non-refundable event may have been the first error here.

If it was non refundable then maybe they should not have provided a 'refund button'

Anyone else think a button on an order that says 'refund' suggests that you can get your money back? Maybe im just a bit strange.

Just checked my Wiggle account and there is a "return item" button next to items I've purchased, so if that is still there for events that should be changed.

Doesn't alter the fact it says non-refundable on the event page when you order though. If you missed that and are still getting wound up thats a bit strange 😉

Yeah but as everyone knows the T&C's because they ticked the box to say they had read and understood them it's not much of a problem.

being non-refundable makes sense as refunds for sportives would cause chaos. Just imagine if the weather was really bad for the event. Half the field would stay in bed and the event would go bankrupt.

Being non refundable certainly does make sense, being non refundable and offering a very obvious 'refund' button on the said purchase makes absolutely no sense.
