I'm actually pretty gutted missing this one this year.. new baby due the week after and couldn't risk letting the team down...

Shame the weather is turning as always.. sure will be much better than eastnor for damp conditions!!

Noticed on the emails from organiser they are advising not to follow your tom toms when close to the event!!

Missnotax and Toasty, will be on a five too. so if its the wrong choice at least I will be in good company lol.
Loving this thread... Utter panic about camping lol, It's always been a first come first served basis for camping at events.
By the way I am parked outside the gates now with my ex Gerry Cottle Circus big top and miles of tape to ensure I get the very best spot 8)

If last year is anything to go by, we'll be fine, you'll have sunk by Friday afternoon.

why did they say first come first served? that usually implies a restricted amount of something. probably a poor choice of words causing unecessary worry among the entrants.

Clearly they did it so that the paranoid minority could have a good public worry frenzy. Other stuff to be worried about: will there be enough soap on site? Will the ground be too hard to camp on? Is there a Michelin-starred restaurant within reach? What will happen if there's a small localised earth-quake? Will Princess Anne be riding round the course dressage style and if so do you address her as 'Maam' or just shout 'RIDER!' Or 'Rider, Maam'?

I'm focussing right now on how many chocolate trifles to take with me. Will the organisers allow chocolate trifles on site though? Oh the drama...

I've been on course for a few days getting it ready, and its holding up nicely, bring gears unless you love the pain! The camping/arena ground is very very firm.

I've already put our tents up on the back of a tractor and trailer.

Hopefully i won't have any issues pulling into a prime spot and then leaving. whoever gets there first may have an issue mind.

STOP PRESS
There is enough room for everyone to camp at Gatcombe Park.

No-one will be turned away.

“Can I bring a caravan?”
YES

“Can I bring a motorhome?”
YES

Please note: no electric hook-ups or effluent disposal available at Gatcombe Park.

I think some one from Mayhem has been reading this thread 😆

Well up there someone said it's hard ground. 26+ laps on a HT with my back might be painful*

*actually I want to razz past the mincers if there's a sniff of a DH

Getting there tomorrow lunchtime, got 3 teams I need to get space for! Should be ok by the sounds of things, just don't fancy the disapproving looks for 6 hours til the rest of them turn up at 8pm! 😕

Well, i'm quite looking forward it even though I spent my drive to work this morning with a fuly loaded car) remembering all the things forgot to pack...

So far I have remembered that I have forgotten to pack a torch, plastic plate and bowl, a towel, a mallet and a camping chair. Am currently rummaging through the kitchen at work to find anything plate-like... Decided I can do without a towel.

I caught myself in the shower psyching myself up into race mode. FFS, not only is it still a day away, but I've done about 20 of these damn things before, why I am I nervous?

Maybe 27mph wind and an exposed top of the hill campsite are making your nerves go funny molgrips 🙂

Goodness, that's keen. I've just eaten a large slice of chocolate cheesecake - that's my race prep 8)

I think it might make my caravan awning go funny... On the one hand, it's a great place for the kids to play, on the other.. it's a tent and subject to wind...

My race head isn't to make me go faster, it's to help me come to terms with the pain and suffering.

I was there for a while at lunchtime and there was loads of room. Camping area A had about four camper vans and an awning in it.

You don't need any identification for signing in, but you do need to know your own name, so best stay off the beer until afterwards.

The ground was hard, and it would take a lot of rain to turn it soggy. I can't make comment on the course as I'll be walking that in the morning.

And there were a lot more people in the retrovillage when I left.

In terms of hardship it was not that bad really. The blu tak for half the event was worse than the mud tbh

I turned up at 9am on the Friday to set up camp in a good space. The plan worked well. A load had been allowed in before 9am but there were still good spaces. It's a bit of a free-for-all.
