Still running Raceface standard BB, i've got 2 spares as well from buying new cranks for various bikes but never using them yet.

Not easy getting that bottle in/out chocolateteapot...lost count of the amount of times I've inadvertently locked the shock! Must get a side loading cage at some point.

Mine stated creaking after around 50 miles of riding, it's quite annoying now but it's still running relatively smooth. Think I will probably go hope if they're compatible

You're right about the bottle! it's very rarely on there though as I usually use a pack 🙂

Wouldn't mind a longer dropper at some point!

Yours looks about half a mile out!

Bottom bracket it creaking pretty badly as well, what have people upgraded to on theirs?

Still on the original myself but i've heard people upgrading to Hope. Thing is Hope say it won't work.....

Yeah, i'm quite tall, if only they did a 250mm drop! 😀

What size frame are you on? Looks like you could have done with a bigger size. Aware of a few 170/175mm droppers but not heard of any longer than that. But unless the seattube was very short can't see why you'd want a longer one.

It's an XL frame with a 150mm reverb, I reckon 200mm would be perfect as theres around 6cm seat tube exposed 🙂

That's odd, the XL 'should' have come with a 170mm as standard.

I took my T130 to BPW in standard guise (140 Pikes and Monarch RT3) and didn't find it much fun, very choppy, lots of arm pump (I also took my Yeti SB66c with 36s and Fox X2 which handled the hardpack bikepark stuff way better). But then I have friends who like Pikes on that kind of terrain. Morzine would be pretty similar to BPW I think.

I would like to see if the 36s on the T130 have made it mode BPW friendly (I suspect they have), but haven't been back since (to be honest I prefer riding natural trails in the woods more anyway, which also don't pummel you as much).

At the end of the day the geometry is great, and forks ride the same whatever bike they are on - if you like Pikes then yo'll be fine. I prefer 36s so switched to them. The rear end is great with the Monarch Plus ML3, the standard RT3 is fine too.

I've never used 36s before so wouldn't be able to compare them. Just really wondering if throwing in a 140 shaft, and maybe a luftkappe would make a big difference. Keen to hear from others that rode the pike both 140 & 150.

I wouldn't want to take away the nimbleness and playfullness as most of the stuff I ride isn't that big and it's ace on that. If it was going to compromise it for that I'd be better off sticking with renting or buying a cheaper big bike for alps.

I had creaking that that I thought was BB but couldn't get to go away. Turned out I'd snapped the alloy axle in the rear wheel... Has been replaced with a steel one.

Love the look of these...anyone have an opinion on the 2018 model? Probably the S.
Been talking about getting one for a year now and I should probably pull my finger out!

I think the 2018 model has this, I've actually had two of the above and both came with 150mm.

Cogglepin, Alpine Bikes, part of Tiso have them on sale at the moment. Get one of their Outdoor Experience cards and it'll save you another 10% on top of the sale price.

I'm crap at posting pictures so I can't be bothered.

Just picked my 2015 T130s from hansford in Winchester after finding a little bit of play at the back wheel. All the rear suss bearing replaced under warranty fixed it!

I've had it from new and the only thing I've changed is magic Mary up front and nobby nic on the rear. Oh. And a bell to scare old people.

Would like another 10mm up front and maybe change to 1 x 11 when things start wearing out, but love it!

Serious question: Just HOW good is the 2017 T130s?
Sorely tempted - looking to see if I can sling my leg over one today.
Even better is the fact it is now £2295 is a few places.
Is the Yari RL a good fork? Better than the Fox 32 I have on my Trigger?
Any weak points? Always been a Shimano man so Level brakes and Sram Gx is a complete unknown to me. Looking for a reason NOT to get one - it's got so many good reviews it must be bloody good. Only want to change my Trigger if this is significantly better...currently running 140mm so will I miss 10mm either end? Sounds like a great all-rounder and it's not like I do big drops or anything...

Please feed back ASAP as I'm itching to go and try one...thanks!

Go and try one then! All my test rides were on the S. Great fun. I just upgraded because of work related unexpected cash that was pretty much exactly the difference and wanted a pike.

Hey rascal, what size are swinging your leg over? I'm currently looking at get one of these myself. For me it looks like I'm right between sizes, although I'll be right in the limit with a large and a 100mm dropper with my short legs (according to Mrs asbrooks) and longish torso.

In response to Rascal, i bought a 2017 t130s in march for that sort of money. So might be worth trying to get a further discount.
I had 2x10 slx on my old bike, i love the gx stuff never dropped a chain yet and havent missed have fewer gear ratios. In terms of brakes i reallycant tell the difference between the sram levels and slx on my old bike. The pads did wear sharpish and initially could only get original sram pads but i think that has changed now. I love my bike i had lusted after an orange segment but the spec and price settled it for me. Reviews report the bike being portly but i find it rides quite light.

I'm just about to buy a 130S. Slightly concerned that going from a 150mm travel bike (Vitus Escarpe VRX) is gonna be a bit of a shock but I have belief (sort of) in my riding skills and the dialed geometry...

Any comments?

Hmm so this may have gone from theoretical to happening in the short term as I just found I scratched the stanchions of the Revelations on my 2015 T130

So the first question is if I use this opportunity... and get some Pikes... and then (non boost) do I put on 130's ?? Or what are the options...? I don't want to take it above 140 but ... for the available non boost Pikes that means buying a 150 (from what I can tell)

What's involved in switching to 140 ???

I've replaced the terrible Sram Roam 40s with DT XM481s on Hope Pro 4s, stuck a longer dropper in, replaced the bar and stem with Renthal, fitted Eagle, replaced the shock with a Monarch+ and obviously fitted the contact points I like. I've also swapped the back tyre to a Maxxis Aggressor since this picture was taken.

The wheels and the shock

Bit of a delayed response here but would like to pick your brains on fitting the Monarch Plus...

Where did you get it from and what shock tune did it come with, would you recommend, any other feedback welcome as i'm looking to fit one myself but confused about what shock tune to get.

The right tune is ML3, but you will struggle to get a Monarch Plus ready built in that tune. I bought an ML, and tried it like that but felt it was a bit over damped on compression for me. I tried pulling shims here and there but in the end bought a Rockshox ML3 tune assembly (basically the main piston with a different shim stack) from Germany and fitted that. I really liked it for the time it worked, but my shock needs a new piggyback after tweedlove weekend, so currently out of action.

Cheers pdV6
So just checking I could buy the 130's and then just change the airs shaft for a (26" - 150mm, 27.5" - 140mm, 29" - 120mm) for £30 .... swap them over and then stick with the 140 if I'm happy and if not only wasted about £30 and some time ???

Yep, I did that on mine. I need to advertise my 130/140mm Pikes that came with the bike, but they are boost so not what you were after.

Cheers for that. Any idea what the '3' in the ML3 refers to?

ML tune is compression force 80lbs, ML3 is compression force 60lbs. Not entirely sure how they measure it!

Basically ML3 is the lowest compression damping model as the T130 has a low leverage ratio.

Reviews report the bike being portly but i find it rides quite light.

My other bike (which I've hardly ridden since getting the T-130 is a Giant XtC advanced... so pretty light, even as light go.... by comparison the Whyte feels bloody heavy when lifting it into a workshop stand... but it doesn't feel heavy when ridden...

Obviously, not as light as a carbon hard tail but pretty light all the same. The only bit's I'd change for weight are the wheels which are heavy and feel heavy...

I was using my Giant /DT Swiss TRX carbon wheels ... which RRP are £1300 or so... then I got a cheap pair at new year (superstar sale) £100 for the set... (Tactic Rims and Fuel Hubs , Hans Dampf on the front and a 2.4 Racing Ralph I had spare on the back) ... these are much lighter than the Whyte/WTB/WTB from the 2015 as shipped combo and I've not put the carbon rims back on as it means changing tyres... (so I can't be that bothered) however I wouldn't choose to put the stock wheels back..

I know it weighs a fair bit but it just doesn't feel like it when ridden..
As to the HT ... The T-130 is such a blast... even an odd root is a excuse for a bit of air .. it feels like such a playful bike.. I just don't raise the HT anymore except stuff I could ride a CX bike on... (dropping the kid at school on a few paths and tracks)

After trying and putfing a deposit down on a T130s on Sat for £2000 I was hesitating and looking to try other bikes. Canyon Spectral felt short even as a large. Long story short, I have found a 2017 T130RS with a sizeable discount (£600 off) in large which felt fine with the S. I have til 3.30pm today to decide. Love the look and spec - much better than the S. Was looking to try a Bird Aeris on Sat - specced one up that was similar kit to this RS and was coming in at £2900 without a dropper. Shall I just do it?

I have one and would personally advise against it simply because of the poor performing rear shock. Although you could upgrade it with the saving you would be making...

I was hoping the shock would be good at £3k...what's wrong with it?
Don't wanna spend any more in spite of the saving...

So the pikes arrived this afternoon
A cut off bath sealant tube makes a great crown race setting tool .my DIY starnut fitting could be.better though so I might stick a new one sometime .. the 140 air shaft arrives tomorrow

SRAM warrantied my OEM Monarch RT3 (had a knock inside, found some broken bits on the compression adjust mechanism inside) and yesterday I got sent back a brand new Monarch Plus instead! But in MM tune which will feel permanently locked out on a T130... So i've got to pull apart a brand new shock to put it right!

It's insensitive on small stuff and feels harsh on sharp-edged hits but feel like it blows thru on landings. This is on local trails btw so should hoover it all up for breakfast really.
