I have LX shifters and my left hand is aching after riding the bike for a few hours. the gear shifter is really stiff, making it difficult to change up. I really have to force the lever to move up the chain rings.

is there anything I can adjust to make the shifting easier?

This may sound a bit ridiculous and it may just have been a coincidence. However my friend has this problem and i found that he had pretty much just over tightened every screw/bolt on the shifters. Loosened them slightly and things seemed to ease a little. As i said, couldve just been a fluke.

new cables is also a good shout as dirt grime etc inside the outters would cause stickyness ๐Ÿ™‚

Is this something you've gradualy noticed or is it sudden?. If its the latter it could be a set up issue. If the former it may just be wear - Shimmies shifters do seem to get stiffer and with softer 'clicks' as they age, you only tend to notice how bad when you use newer stuff.

Dirt gets in the cables, makes them sticky, you feel this at the lever...

Sometimes the front mechs seize up, had a couple of Deore ones do this.

maybe unscrew the cable at the front mech and see if the cable moves easily when you push the shifter. Also allows you to move the front mech by hand to see if its stiff.

Had same problem recently and the following worked for me - change down to smallest sproket on front, pull outer out of guides and slide outer down the cable, clean cable and re-lub then put ebverything back
