[Closed] Why is my bike getting punctures without moving?

[#10316136]

I changed my tyres monday morning ready for a ride that unfortunately didn't happen yesterday. All good and ready to go. Yesterday late morning my bike had a flat front tyre. Took it off and noticed a puncture, guess I must have pinched the tube. Held air overnight though, but got it sorted.

Just noticed my rear tyre is flat. It was fine and full of air about an hour ago. The bike hasn't moved at all (it's in the kitchen) and no one's been messing with it. Haven't taken the tyre off to have a look but i am a bit bemused by it. What is going on?

Slightly sticky valve? Worth just blowing it up again and seeing if it stays up or at lest giving it a good listen to when it's up

^Sticky valve, or rim tape if they're new tyres (and not latex tubes)

are you using thin air or thick air? Thin air is lighter but it tends to leak out between the tyre atoms.

Either that or you are leaving your bike next to a radiator.

Sometimes the universe just decides it doesn't like you for a bit. This is how it expresses its feelings.

Probably just bad luck/coincidence, or very small thorns or something just poking through the old tyres to damage the tubes? Dislodged rim tape on both exposing spoke holes?

Sticky valves are an odd one - my commuter was flat the other day.  Pumped it up and rode to work, convinced I was going to end up repairing the tube at the roadside but it's been fine for a week since.

I've had this, I put it down to the tube sticking slightly to the inside of the tube and a small puncture self sealing. Break the seal by changing the tyre and the puncture comes into play.

my car does the same

pump it up then its ok

then the other side does it

If you have a very slow puncture, you wont notice any bubbles in water unless you pump it up very hard

I got a puncture on the turbo trainer a couple of weeks ago. That really messed with my head.

Is it by the valve? Talc your tubes. My brother had this problem in the summer.

Maybe a thorn or suchlike is making it's presence felt?

Checking the valves and running your fingers around the inner surface of the tyre wouldn't be a bad idea.

Tyres are fine, I check/feel the inside of the tyre every time, been caught out by rogue thorns and stuff plenty before now. Pumped it up and air is leaking through the valve hole of the rim. It went flat I'm about a minute. Hole around the valve somewhere I'm guessing, will check in a bit.

Strange how these things just happen, held air for ages before that. Not sure whether it's thin or thick air, but my joeblow max gives it to my Stiffee. It is not stored against a radiator, but it does lean against the freezer, the door hinge on that is broken. Could this be the reason? Or is it aliens?

Need a ‘What tyres for thin air’ thread.

What size wheels are you on gnusmas? I might have some 29” inner tubes kicking around somewhere. Current bike has 650b.

Stiffee is old skool. Someone on another thread I started said they were going to send me some wheels and forks that are 29er for an all purpose build workhorse type of bike. That was pre gnusmobile though, haven't heard anything since. Completely forgot about that til you mentioned 29er now. Still think maybe that sort of bike would suit morning blast better, but not sure.

I loved 29 for hardtails and I’d have again in a heartbeat if I ever go back to HT. Think it’s the best wheel size for covering a multitude of riding.
