Just been looking at chainsets in particular but the question applies equally to other stuff.

Probably a higher volume item now.

Shimano dropped the rrp by an average of 10% I seem to remember for 10 speed stuff

So should I fit the 10 speed chainset to my 9 speed bike or pay more for obsolete kit?

10 speed chainset will work on 9 speed everything else. Personally I'd just go 10 speed now, shifts better and can run a shadow plus rear mech.

I'm pondering if I can justify the cost of the chainset. I certainly can't afford to co vert a bike to 10 speed.

The SRPs of the two are the same. However there will be 10 speed OE stock in the market which brings the market price down. Any 9 speed OE stuff will have sold a long time ago so the prices will be closer to SRP.

That seems like a reasonable explaination.

Still not sure which one to fit though.

No reason to discount 9 speed, as folk who need it will buy it, whereas with 10 speed you can buy other manufacturers.

I'm all 9-speed XTR on my bike, so...

Is it just me, or is the 9 speed easier on the eye?
