When I turn the bars? It doesn't feel rough, and hasn't creaked before today. Went for a long-ish ride (35 miles) yesterday. Hmmm, what gives? ๐Ÿ™‚

you sure it's the headset?
I had this and it turns out it was the cable outers rubbing in the stays. Also if you have a cable tie keeping the cabls tidy it could be that rubbing.

I'm guessing, but I've noticed the the bearings in my rear hub tend to creak prior imminent failure; perhaps your bearings are on the way out?

Bet it's dry as a bone, take the fork out and grease all the surfaces.
