I ride for For the three F's.... Fun, Fitness, Friendship also the best therapy to get out amongst some fantastic scenery. Simples innit!
I love the countryside and I love cycling...mountain biking combines both.
Fun, adventure, fitness and like walking, it's good for the soul.
Speed, laughs, thrills, embarrassment, lycra, ogling girlies in lycra, falling off (thats a lie!), staying on (thats a laugh!), getting all clarted up (mucky) and forgetting (briefly) that I'm an old gimma ....
because i simply love riding bikes.
Jedi +1
Since the age of 11 I have had no other pastime hobby or sport. Every day I think about riding bike whether I'm riding or not. I daydream about it (jump box in middle of town centre with me showing kids how to do truckdrivers (360 barspin)). I spend all my money on it. I've never had a games console, Bigtrak, radio controlled cars, cameras, nice clothes, expensive stereos or TV's. I don't spend money on foreign holidays either.
I don't do it for fitness, never have done.
I don't do it to race.
My dream is to be 80 years old and still riding a bike. I simply can't imagine not having any bikes in the house.
I love day long epics on the full suss
I love riding 60 miles on the road bike
I love practicing flatland on the bmx even though I'm rubbish
I love going out with complete beginners for 1 mile and seeing a smile on their face.
It's the 3rd most important thing in my life!
Love the freedom that being out in the hills gives, miles from anywhere with only yourself and/or mates for company. Plus I like the challenge, and the satisfaction of doing something faster or harder than I previously thought I could. And I love being outside in the fresh air. Being 43 and fit, rather than 43 and fat. And it's fun
Because I can.
Well I ride because it's fun and as the fitness side is excellent. I am well at ease with my not so great riding skills, and I am not so sure someone who is a good rider doing really difficult stuff has any more fun than me wobbling over not so hard stuff as it's all relative really isn't it ๐
See pics on pages 20/23 of this months mag.
Love being out with mates on a Sunday, finding new bits of singletrack, laughing when someone has a comedy crash, mucking in when someone gets a puncture. Cups of tea mid ride and pints of ale after. Coming home exhausted, showing girlfriend the scratches/bruises. Not caring that I'm still pretty rubbish, as it's all so much fun. Blooming best thing I've ever gotten into.
It's the grin factor for me, playing in the amazing land we live in. That, and the fact that I get some time for me with hearty chaps/esses and legitimately eat cake ๐
Always loved riding bikes, tinkering and building them , road bikes in a cycling club at 11 then bmx in my early teens then back to road bikes then mountain bikes in the mid eighties until 1990 , I then did other sports namely wakeboarding and monoskiing for around 6 years but always missed riding so 14 yrs ago started riding mtb again and have never stopped , ride everyday to work and Sundays when I can ,
Just being out on a bike can't be beat IMO , rain shine or whatever , it's pure peace
So I can come on here and moan like Victor Meldrew.
Love just getting out in the fresh air and having some fun relieving stress. Not ridden locally with anyone else other than races in about a year but love going back to Wales for the bi-annual ride with my brother in law having a catch up, laugh, egging each other on and just pushing each other...
it's more fun than watching Eastenders and cheaper than racing motorbikes (but only just)
I just really like bikes. Riding them makes it easier to justify having them.
Because I always have; I can remember very early bikes from toddler-hood and the fun I had on them. Now, it's primarily an escape, a route into the hills and a way to keep fit, but it's also a means of transport, a way to spend time with my friends, a buzz, a mental & physical challenge, an aid to trying to keep the weight off and something to spend my hard-earned on. I love the solitude of riding on my own, in the beautiful part of our beautiful country that we're fortunate enough to live in.
I've recently discovered that I can fix and put together bikes and that's a great surprise, having had a life of practical cack handedness before that.
Cycling has also got me through the worst parts of my illness, especially the earliest days of my recuperation and I'm very grateful to it for that. Might sound daft, but hey - that's the way I think!
Gonetothehills - it's not daft at all, I know exactly what you mean
For fun / adrenalin / relaxation all at once. Messing around on or with bikes is always fun. I love the rush of riding fast singletrack and at the same time being out there is a great stress relief after a bad day/week - in fact the way this week is going I need a ride to avoid going on a killing spree.
Also I used to play football, which was nice but sometimes you didn't win, same with snooker. Have always been into fishing great for getting out there again but again sometimes there were no fish. With mountain biking on the other hand - the hill is always there to ride up and back down again - it's a win every time!
Cheers, Taff. ๐
Peace. Escapism. being at one with myself. Nature. Exploring. beauty. meeting people with like interests. adrenalin buzz. exercise. Rashes. pushing it. Being pissed off. Relaxing. Seeing things. Taking the piss/comedy manliness. Conversation. Good old healthy fun ๐ Swearing. flapjacks. Beer. Being knackered.
It's all good.
For the post-ride beer ๐
Seriously, I dunno, I just love it. Always have done, ever since I was a kid, I guess I always will.
no matter how exhausted i get, no matter how many "big drops" i end up walking (purely due to mental barriers saying "you dont get sick pay, you dont get sick pay") no matter how short the ride... i've just been away from the sofa, in the woods, messing around with friends if it helps burning calories then thats a plus.
amen to that
has anyone else noticed the lack of expensivetechnobikegubbins on this thread? funny eh? the reality of it.
I love riding and nurses
Because I have for forty years, and I can't imagine stopping. I'll ride until I can't ride, and when that happens I hope I can deal with it.
There's a last ride out there for everyone, so you have to squeeze in as many as you can between today's ride and that one.

Wow, what a sobering thought!
