1 x 10, SLX shifter and mech on a Hammerhead Thumper. I've tried different quality cables but they keep snapping between the mech tightening bolt and the bottom of the outer - i.e. the exposed bit near the mech. It happens when I'm giving it some beans downhill.
Cable outer too short? When a friend kept snapping cables in the same place as you a longer outer solved it.
I've no experience of SLX but it's a well known problem with zee mechs.
Basically the pinch bolt plate has a sharp edge and it frays the cable.

When did you last replace the outer? If there are bits of the cable run exposed then chances are corrosion/ muck has got in and increased the stress on the cable.
