[#1557309]

So who's going? I've never done it before and have entered as a pair with me and my mate. He's muttering and moaning about the weather already (he's a fair weather rider) and wants to give up already

Me.. I'm up for it even if it does rain (builds character init!)

and yes tyres: I'm taking racing ralphs front and back and another set of wheels with black shark/ conti 1.5's

What should i expect?

Good choice of tyres.

Expect a very fast start. Best to be at the front if you're "racing". Put spare everything in your pit.

I was, but my race partner has the lurgy 😥

At least I don't have to see my ex lightweight baby being ridden by another man (trickydisco ) 😉

Oh well, I'll just have to go and play on some nice quiet mountains and marvel at the fact that everyone else is puking a lung riding around some fields or on the dyfi 😀

That's a shame tazzy!.. Yep it's all ready sporting a funny new saddle with a gaping hole in the middle.

My race/riding partner is glued to the weather reports. He only likes riding in dry with his maxlight 330 tyres and v brakes

Mayhem should be fun though 🙂

you do realise that offering sheldon and me, booze as a bribe for coming to play is going to end in chaos (fast chaos, but definitely chaos!)

I might come to the E6 to heckle if the weather is nice though, feels odd not to be racing/eventing so much this year, but riding a SS event seems to have made a fat un-competative slacker 😀

Should be going as a pair, but have a bad back that's had me off riding for most of two months. Flared up again this week. So we'll see.

Wahoo! I'm doing it as a pair with a mate.

I'll be on my new silver Stumpy Elite & my mate will be on a Whyte E-120.

Just hoping the weather holds out! The run at the start is, erm, interesting!

The run at the start is, erm, [s]interesting! [/s] easy

especially if your race partner is a stupidly fast runner 😀

Not like it didn't forecast it. Same here in Nottm. Is it the same course as SITS?

juan, there's 8 stages per lap....

1) start
2) stand in queue at bottleneck
3) realise you've not cleaned your water bottle for 6 months & your water tastes like it's got pond weed in it
4) wave at photographer
5) speed up towards end of lap to make you look faster than you are
6) hand over to team mate
7) eat jam sandwich & banana, squirt lube on chain & spin cranks vigorously while squeezing tyres with thumb & forefinger.
8 ) wait for team mate

Repeat for as many laps as you can manage.

As for the weather - I've been in Telford all week and driving back this afternoon past Walsall/Brum etc. it was pretty wet. Hmph. Not like the dry, dusty conditions last yr! More rain predicted too.

Doing it solo - not managed to fit in a lot of training so might struggle to even keep up with the Ashton lot 🙁

Weather update anyone?
As its been so dry recently I'm thinking all this rain will just run off the hard-packed earth and evaporate 🙄

Actually don't think there will be any mud at all, keep those semi-slicks on!

Ahem

I'll be there riding solo on Sunday and doing the night Time Trial on saturday on a bright yellow Robin Mather Rohloff 29er , wearing Vegan Cyclists jersey & shorts.
So if you see a big, fat, beardy bloke going nowhere near as fast as you would expect for someone in team kit on a custom built boutique frame, that'll be me. Say hello.

Weather update!
Dryish overnight
Dry morning untill 1pm then lashed it down for a couple of hours, sunshine and showers for the rest of the afternoon.
IMHO its been very dry for all of April so I would have thought the ground has a lot of soaking up to do.
Enjoy beware of the raceheads!!!!

Beware of the pseudo-racers. I only ever swear at my team mates when they're late, rather than at other riders on the course 😉

Any more information on the Parc Ferme idea ?
I usually take a spare bike to multi lap endurance events so if I get a major problem with my race bike, I can at least carry on on my commuter.
I'm a bit wary of leaving it unattended at the side of the course though.
Is it safe ?
Can I leave it locked in the Land Rover instead and leave the course to fetch it if I need to ?

No, with a parc ferme if it's not in the pits you can't have it.

TBH the pit area is fine there are always loads of folks around and it is a dedicated pit zone next to the start finish and once the race starts you can only get in via the timing gate entry. Some chav would stick out a mile well before they got near your bike 😉

Thanks tazzy, I thought that was how it worked.
Bristol and Cheddar Bike Fests have a solo area to store kit and I've never had any problems with leaving food, clothing, spares and tools there, but when I wrecked a tyre at Cheddar I had to go back to the Land Rover and swap the wheel with my spare bike.
I'll be racing a 29er, but my spare is a 26er, so if there's a major problem like that again, it's going to have to be a complete bike swap.

the 29er will fly around the catton park course as it's not too technical or tight (apart from a little wiggle bit in the trees with tight hairpins)

on the plus side the rain will have damped down the slippy slidey gravel corners in the bluebell wood descent.

Have fun to all that are playing at the E6, it's ace 😀

Was very hot and dust last year, suffered hurrendous cramps in the last 3 of my 11 solo laps.

What's the weather doing now is the more important question?

Update from the course this afternoon is that it is dry and fast - Furious Freds are fine. The huge black clouds are rolling in though - so it will be Mud Sharks tomorrow 🙁

Shame as the course is riding really well now.

GB (mincing out of the night TT due to the lightening and rain forecast...)

Yes, I saw some riders hanging around in the woods near the finish and wondered if I should have joined them for a few minutes instead of starting another lap at 5:56. 😕

Hiya Graham! Saw you on my 1st and last lap. COngrats on doing a solo.. I just couldn't imagine doing it.

My Partner came in at 1min to 4 so i had to go out and finish it off. Really enjoyed the event. Went really quick (after only doing SITS and several mayhems before).
