You don't have to get upset with everyone who doesent share your views !

Are you intentionally being oblivious or are you really just not at all self-aware?

What's you're excuse for being a Total Bell End ?

And you think I'm upset!? Golly.

You appear to have a bit of an inferiority complex, I've no issues whatsoever with folk wearing what they want - Kudos put it most eloquently on the last page - great that folk are out there enjoying 'our' sport.

To that end I won't lambast people for wearing anything, least of all the equipment designed for that sport. Ice hockey goalies look bloody stupid, they could play in jeans and a hoodie of course, but it wouldn't be as functionally appropriate. Of course you can ride a bike in a t-shirt, but considering it's not the choice of anyone competing, the odds are that it's not the most appropriate, for most disciplines that's lycra, no problems if you don't want to wear it, but what's the issue with those who do?

if folk want to spend a proportion of their wages on expensive bikes having been involved in Cycling most of their life why is it any concern of yours, it shouldn't matter to you after all it's all about getting out there and riding isn't it ?

Of course, I don't know why you keep coming back to this? I've always spent quite an unhealthy proportion of my income on bikes, but that's not relevant.

Clearly ruffled your feathers, sorry about that.

There's a finite numbers of spaces on the internets Discodick, when they're gone, they're gone!

I don't think I am "Known to you" I'm not that good !

I meant were you a former member returning after an enforced sabbatical, not if you were famous! 🙄

Scruff, if I had a body like him, I'd go out dressed like that! 😀

Njee, you are so good at this, I wish I were just like you !
However I see your still struggling to understand that when a business owner opens up a bike shop they do so in hope that folk will purchase bikes, kit & equipment ? That's good practice I said that at the time and still fail to understand why you got your Lycra in a twist about it ?

If I had a bike shop and stocked expensive bikes I'd go to bed on a night wondering if there was any one foolish enough to spend some money using up my stock creating a job for an employee or two ?

Kudos !
Just for you because when all the space on the internet is gone !
You will have to find something else to do to occupy your time, like tiddly winks, as cycling means you will have to get out of the house and speak to people in real life, like njee.

Counting down the clock... Unfortunately my business dictates that I must be available to my clients during office hours. Although they all seem to have buggered off to enjoy the heatwave so I'm enjoying watching the Tour de France and arguing with imbeciles on the internet. 😉

I'd go and ride one of my 6-grand bikes, but my legs are shredded from trying to beat people like Njee in a club time trial last night. 8)

I'm not what you might call sociable, and the amount of Friends I do have could be counted on one hand

Oh teh ironing!

That just doesn't make sense.

Anywho, we seem to have derailed this thread entirely, and I'm probably responsible for that, so my apologies. I, for one, see the point in translucent race capes, particularly for use in racing, not just for kit, but also for numbers - as you don't want to be pinning numbers on a posh waterproof jacket - being able to see them through a jacket is highly advantageous!

Meanwhile, back in on topic land...

"The majority of roadies I know ride in club or team colours, so many of them wear translucent rain capes."

This! In a race, my number has to show. So I have an Endura Race Cape. searched for ages for a transparent all weather cape with taped seams. It is a fantastic piece of kit and is good in torrential downpours. Mind you in most wet races, I can suffer hard rain for 70 minutes, Longer road races, not.

I have a windshell and a gilet in club colours, but when the rain comes down, the Endura comes out. Packs down very small for commuting too.

No it didn't make any sense to you 12 months ago either, its simple and it goes like this

"Money makes the world go round"
You earn it you spend it the bloke in the bike shop sells it he orders another, some people build it a driver delivers it then it's unpacked and put on the shop floor and the person who has been employed to sell more good stuff sells that one.
Months later a punter comes in and wants a few upgrades, he decides to have these done whilst it's being serviced so then you now have to think about employing a mechanic only on a casual basis mind as business hasn't yet exceeded where you thought you might be by year end ?

The accountants happy, and then you decide you need a van for your business, that's more money can you see the pattern that forms around business or are you still lost on it all ?

And here's a real conundrum, do you sell 1 bike and make £700 profit or 7 cheap bikes at £100 profit each ?
1 bike, 1 delivery cost, less storage
7 bikes multiple delivery costs no storage left ?

Kudos, be careful bragging about the cost of bikes as njee doesent like it !
The last thing you want is him dragging up posts from years ago.

**sigh** I'm just not going to bother, if you can't read. You have a mid range bike, and in inferiority complex about it. This is no one else's fault. Stop derailing the thread, I at least tried to get it back OT!

You tried to get it back on track because you showed us how good you were by cutting and pasting snippets of information from when exactly ?
And how dare I, having been away for Months, bad bad me.

Yes your right I have a mid range bike, that's because sometimes I'm a mid range rider.

Sometimes though I use my bike that I got given for free, one that cost me Nothing, but was ridden in a famous race, from the bloke who won.

Free stuff is best.

Who would actually wear this?

I think that has been already been addressed - people who wear lycra because its the ultimate in cycle clothing but don't want to get wet so wear something thats not very good for cycling in because its baggy and makes you sweat but is see through so other cyclists can see youre serious about cycling and can still see the uniform underneath.

[,.;:' - punctuation provided - insert where you see fit]

I'd just wear a coat personally and constantly shout out my race number 😀

Euro - Take some good advice,

It Pays NOT to utilise common sense on this forum for the simple reason it is exactly that "Common"

What you actually require is some Elite sense.
Unfortunately your lacking in STW Elite sense by the virtue of using your brain, I'm thick and cycle in clothing adorned with Seams and the worst part of it all is that it flaps in the wind.

I however have waterproof Skin, its fantastic. Sometimes it let's me down as it's been known to leak and on occasions some red stuff escapes.
I've heard that if I get my seams taped this will rectify the problem.

If you stand in front of a fire with a transparent cape on there's a good chance that it will shrink fit, that will give you the racers edge.

In the mean time try not to over complicate matters.

Manufacturers are knocking out this shit calling them capes and their lapping it up.
Sssshhhhhhhhhh.

Ditto Disco. I think i could shave a few seconds off every ride if i wore the proper attire but i'm too stupid to care. Good advice duly noted though and i've ordered some elite sense from the lbs (hope it fits)

It's a funny old world when a translucent piece of cycling rainwear can generate such frothing rage.... 😐

Euro, Congrats on your new purchase, its a good thing that your too stupid to care because when your Elite sense turns up it will be too big, did you go for the transparent varient.

Remember, if you can't see the number then it's NOT racing.

Err, yes, that's right. You have to display your number, or you get disqualified in a race 😕

Yes alright Derek ! We got that message the first time round, why don't you look back through the thread and bestow upon us your Elite Status of STW god by cutting and pasting, who knows you might be able to belittle oneoif us ?

Then you can go back to staring at your corn flakes, see if you can't scare the milk into going sour ?

That's proper hard that is,

I've seen quite a lot of cyclists wear them. I would if i was in a team/club and wanted to show others my club or teams logos. I think they look quite smart over a decent jersey.

I am feeling a little insecure, I wear baggy shorts over bibs or padded Lycra shorts. It's not because I don't have a bulge honest, I just like the pockets for stuff. That was until I fell off and my tyre leavers ripped my shorts but that's another story.

Anyone else run the combination outfit?

I wear bagggy shorts over lycra when I'm on the mtb - I thought pretty much everyone does for longish rides

stops the lycra getting ripped and makes me look well endurad, innit

(googles for see-through pvc shorts)
("regrets" it)
