njee has a point - just weigh a known quantity of water (say 10-11 litres) and that'l be close enough for this purpose.

Just out of interest, how are you going to accurately measure the quantity of water?

By weighing it of course 🙄

My downhill bike* about 17 lbs (9.4:1).

Hockey bike* about 12 lbs (13.3:1).

Road bike (actually a bike) at least 25 lbs (6.4:1) with full mudguards, dynamo hub, big pannier thingy.

Joe

*okay these two are unicycles, but they do the job!

What components have you got on there?

You did ask...

S-Works Epic frame and E100 Futureshock fork (3lbs)
S-Works carbon chainset, BB30, 2x9, aluminum bolts (530g, so yes, lighter than XX)
X.0 grip shift, medium cage rear mech with carbon jockey wheels
XTR cassette and e-type front mech without bracket
KMC X9SL chain
Roval Controle SL wheels with Tune skewers
Avid 'Ultimate Mag SL' brakes (Elixir callipers with Ultimate levers)
New Ultimate seatpost (130g), bars (100g) and stem (98g)
Phenom SL saddle
Egg Beater pedals with ti axles
tyres vary, but a Rocket Ron/Furious Fred combo is the lightest I use at 685g
1 foam grip cut in half for Grip Shift, alu bolts in mechs, brake levers etc

Works for me!

There are some really optimistic weights being claimed here - the best by far is grumm with a 17.2lb Spesh Pitch! Amazing. 😯

My Spesh carbon HT with Fox F100x, XTR gruppo,Hope Mini Pro, carbon stem and bars plus Crossmax SL wheels weighs in at just under 21lb

my weight was on a merida FLX 3500 with sids - with all things not necessary removed (rebound adjuster , Pop lock and motion control cartridge) XTR drive train/pedals / xt cranks/brakes , Stans 355s on XC sp 3s and 3 bolt 160 rotors. Rocket Rons evos tubeless , Thomson post and stem with truvativ team carbon bars and SLR 135 saddle

My 2009 Sworks stumpy hardtail is built Similar to njee20 epic and with light tyres its high 17lbs too low 18lbs.My scales are as accurate as most. I reckon it could be lighter but i race the thing and any lighter would only spell problems. You wouldnt want to ride it all day or over real rocky stuff but in an Xc race its great.

You must have some pretty special stuff on that ollie, the HT frame's only about 2lbs lighter than the Epic, you've shaved an extra pound somewhere!

and nowhere near as bling componentry, I find it hard to believe

There's bling and there's light. You can spend £800 on a Mavic wheelset that weighs more than 317s on Hope. Factory wheelsets are generally heavy but they come up all the time on top end 'works edition' bikes.

My Kona Heihei is 21.5lbs - FS with discs 2.0 tyres and a triple chainset. There's weight to come off it though - I want to get another pair of wheels so I can easily switch between mud and dry tubeless tyres - so I'll probably get Stans on American Classic and put the current Stans on XTR as mud wheels. That'll save half a pound for sure. I could swap XTR brakes for Hope Mini SLs, get some lighter pedals and ti bolts to then get it down to 20.5lbs without any compromise in performance. But that'd cost a fortune!

Oh yeah and my Patriot is just over 30lbs - which isn't bad for a 7" bike. Is that the lightest seven incher on STW?

njee20 - that's an impressive list, and it's going to be a light bike.

Me to bike mass ratio (body mass only, not riding gear included) is 8.7:1

I'm just over 16 stone and bike is a 26lb litespeed Niota 5" full bouncer, that could easily go a pound lighter...

Late to the party as always, but here's a pic of my 20.57lb (with race number on) race bike as mentioned by Nick:

[img] [/img]

That's probably the best pic I have atm, as I have none of the bike on it's own apart from the initial build which was changed slightly. The weight was verified using a set of calibrated postal scales.

The frame is 3.5lbs (1600g), the weight of a good alloy hardtail. The rest of the kit is light without being silly or German.

6.32:1 on rider:bike ratio, yes, that's right, I weight nothing too.

Druidh - How is the new Blur? Pics? I imagine it's a far more everyday bike than my Koncept.

I'm at 7.41:1 rider:bike ratio, we need someone to bring all these together!

Which suggests my FLX Merida might be lighter.
It's all XTR, top 2 bottom, inc' wheels, it's a HT CF frame, circa 2008. Ti bolts everywhere.
I have it at about 22 - 23 lbs.

I'll have to see if my £85 scales are telling the truth or not.

It might be, but it's a hardtail, it should be!

Jody Crawforth's Merida 96 must be pretty light, that's nicely tarty.

Jody also banjo'd the fork and front wheel on one of it's first rides at a welsh trailcentre.

My bike is about 16 lbs but then again it is a roadbike 😛

I think my mtb weighs 23 lbs but I've swapped all the carbon bits for burly bits till next summer.

I'd love a carbon frame but can't afford to replace it often as I crash alot!

I heard mixed reports on Jody's crash, I thought it happened on the North Downs, when Gareth Montgomerie moved out of the way of a hole too late for Jody to see it! Someone said he trashed the frame and all sorts, but when I spoke to him he said he just bent the fork slightly at the crown/steerer interface.

To be honest, you stuff a bike head on into a hole at high speed it's not going to enjoy it!

I'm sure Gareth said it was Wales, but the rest of the story you have is the same. £400 rim is going to sting though, more so than even a Stans at £70.

Hell yeah!

You seen those Innolite rims? Cheaper than the DTs and 250g. Can you say snap-tastic!

36g 140mm disc rotors too.

You gonna try the rotors then ?

Round (as opposed to the heavier sawtooth) Hope floating rotors for me everytime, anything lighter is just being irresponsible with your health IMO.

The Innolite rims are available under a number of brands, MSC being one. Will stick with the ZTR methinks, two years and they only have a few minor dings in them.

I'm in two minds, part of me wants to try them, but then I fully expect them to be shit, so it's a bit silly to spend the money on them!

fizzer,i also have an s works carbon ht.unfortunately(weight wise),it's got 06 stumpy fsr comp components on it(cannot yet afford to upgrade).so my bike is way heavier than what it can be,(but it still rides great, inc 120mm fox float!!!)

How does it handle the climbs with a 120mm fork? Mine has Sid World Cups at 100mm and I wouldn't want them any longer. Dropped to 85mm for racing.

Once you can afford the new kit the weight should fly off.

hello fizzer,i must admit, that it does feel like it's going to wheelie,if the ascent is steep.i would like to reduce the travel down to 100mm,when i can.in all other respects though,it's great.ps i did phone spesh uk to ask if it was ok to fit the 120mm fork, and they said it would be fine, although it would slow the steering.not that i've noticed though!if i can afford it,i would like some dt swiss 100mm forks.that would be great!!! 😀

What has cycling to do with being green? If it was about saving the ickle polar bears, they could reduce taxation on bikes as transport, such as proper Dutch style bikes, but why on earth should the tax on my 6" travel all mountain bike be reduced in the name of fluffy ickle bunnies?

well for one thing,my bikes are my only form of transport(if you don't include public transport/walking).also i would have thought that people would be happier paying less for items,as well as poorer people being able to afford bikes/components e.t.c. my last comment got lost in the either(it said i commented, but my comment didn't appear).
