Well done to Bob, Dan, Timba (and me) for 'keeping the ride alive' (registered trademark) this evening.

A fun-filled couple of hours slipping and sliding around the riding hotspots of Whitwick. Rounded off with a really decent pint of hobgoblin in the Rag n Mop (at least for Bob and I). The trails were actually not quite as bad as I thought they might be, some water has soaked in (god knows how). I thought we might be in for some bits like where the Martin Sheen character in Apocalypse Now comes out of the water to kill Colonel Kurtz, but actually I'd say they were holding up pretty well. For now at least.

And just to reiterate, there are no worries about being at the back of the ride at all. I have been on plenty of rides where I have been that person who feels like they're holding things up. When I've then ridden with the same people again and mentioned it, they don't know what I'm on about. Riding is riding, it's better than sitting on the sofa and (as far as I am concerned anyway) we aren't some kind of 'devil take the hindmost' roadie chain gang who leave other riders to their own devices miles behind.

Roll on next week. Although things might conspire against me. But I will do my level best to make it on Wednesday evening.

Watch this space.

Rascal.

Good to hear from you.

Yes, more than likely Swithy area. If you could guarantee your attendance then that will set the meet for there (if I get stitched up at work, you could then do the 'knowledge').

Danny, thanks for the ride last night (while it lasted for me), gutted i couldn't finish as I was really looking forward to it. The major stomach pain finished at around 3am this morning and finally managed to get a few hours sleep.

The woods were not as bad as i had thought they would be, they can get pretty darned boggy at times.

Hope to see you all next week without any pain. ๐Ÿ˜€

I should probably turn out for one of these rides at some point...

Maybe when it dries out a bit, as I can't be arsed dealing with 2 filthy rides a week.

Hey Gents, I would be interested in an early evening ride. I haven't ridden for a while. I have been suffering from lower back pain which is easing nicely, I'm itching to get back in the saddle.
Give me a nod when you decide a week day ride, I'll see if I can join you.
Cheers

Right - for this week I am going to get all complicated on you lot ๐Ÿ™

Basically I cannot guarantee being able to make it out on Wednesday night. I would say I'm about 60:40 to be able to make it at the moment. Work is not my friend this week.

The best scenario (for me) is that we set the meet as 7pm in the Woodhouse Eaves village car park, but that someone else who knows the area well enough will be coming in case I can't make it - they could then lead. Rascal - I'm thinking of you here(!)

Can someone please post up if they would be willing to lead a ride from Woodhouse Eaves if I can't make it? If someone does, then we can set the meet as above.

Danny - I'll charge the lights up tonight for the first time in months.
I will be there providing A) I can get the stops sorted on new rear mech, and B) It's not pissing down.
I fore warn you I am badly unfit at the mo - I will be panting at the rear ๐Ÿ˜‰
Seem to be a few newbies on the thread lately - the more the merrier though hopefully someone else knows the area too - if I get too destroyed early on I might shorten it or even bail - hopefully not though.

See you there.

Is there any chance of an earlier start? I work in Swad and live in Leicester, it would be good for me to go straight from work.

Lights? oh! Not sure if I can get anything for this week. I'll see if I can borrow some. I'll let you know tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi asbrooks.

We originally started with a 6-30pm meet, but this was too tight time-wise for most people, so 7pm was a far better option to accommodate the majority.

Hope you can still make it along at some point..........

Probably not this week, and the weather looks pretty good too

I will be panting at the rear
...only until my astonishing lack of technique puts me there

I'll confirm later if I'm going

I'm going to have to declare myself 'out'.

Some rushed and naive 'maintenance' last night has left me needing some parts, which are on order, and the time to fit them. Can someone please make a decision about the when and where?

Scandal. I think my chain drop problems are resulting from a badly worn lower jockey wheel. The chain line on my 1x10 is a bit shit, so I think this has speeded up the wear. You might want to have a look at yours as you don't want it jamming and the mech going into the wheel. I think the jockey wheel was pulling on the mech slightly, creating a bit of slack that allowed the chain to jump off.

Hopefully next week.

Hi all. I'm interested in joining for some evening rides. I'm currently trying to regain some fitness and don't want to be holding the group up! What sort of pace do the rides go at?

I live in Birmingham, but work in Nottingham, so Woodhouse/Whitwick/Swithland is easy for me to get to.

Cheers,

Dave.

Hardcoreprawn - I'm out (and apparently leading) tomorrow night.
First night ride since Oct/Nov...prob 3rd or 4th time bike sniffed fresh air in all that time...I would be very surprised if you are at the back, trust me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Come along...it's hardly a blistering pace at the best of times.
Bring some Beer Tokens for a pint in the Curzon after too ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a good'un folks - sods law that the weather looks halfway decent tonight and I've managed to eff my bike up..............

On the plus side, one of the STW community (schmiken) who lives nearby has offered to help me be 100% sure that the mech hanger is straight this evening - so there's another example of my poor mechanical luck bringing the best out in people(!)

And there's always next week. And the week after that.......

Sorry for the slightly delayed update. The NWLRC continues for another week.

My first night ride since November was a good one. Met Fatbob and newbie Hardcoreprawn (aka Dave) at the car park and took a spin over to Swithland Woods - very boggy and to bottom end of the woods but ok for the most part. Did a nice run off the obelisk in Bradgate that FB had done before with Danny. Minced around in BP for a while and headed back through SW and did a quick blast up Windmill Hill. Not loads of miles but good to get out again - had a very entertaining pint of Landlord sat under the heater outside the Curzon where a very attractive blondie (posh horsey type) from the village thought it was ok when she clipped a bloke on his bike in Northampton because he was eastern European!
Looking forward to getting out again next week where hopefully HCPrawn will come if he hasn't been put off!
7pm in the Man Within Compass car park in Whitwick?

7pm Man Within Compass at Whitwick next Wednesday it is.

Glad you boys made it out. Schmiken did the biz with my derailleur hanger, so the gears are now fully functional again. I've stuck some new jockey wheels in and a new chain to be sure and it seems mint.

It will be getting a run out on Saturday morning on t'moors north of Bradford before an afternoon and evening on the piss in Ilkley, so Saturday looks like being a good day!

Assuming work doesn't screw me over I will see you all next Wednesday.

Yep, good ride on Wednesday, although I do need to improve my fitness! Thanks to Rascal and FB for dragging me along the route. Definately not been put off and will be out again on Wednesday all being well.

BTW, Rascal was much better positioned for views of the Eastern European hating posh totty in the pub!!!

Right chaps, I'm in for this Wednesday. New lights have arrived, have half blinded my colleagues testing them in the office! ๐Ÿ™‚
I'm assuming that pup landlord is ok with us all using the pub car park?

Cheers

I am still 50/50 for this Wednesday evening. I won't be able to commit one way the other until lunchtime Wednesday, so can someone who knows the Whitwick riding please make sure they're there?

Now, can I interest anyone in a Peaks away day on Saturday 22nd March?

I was thinking of either doing a slightly extended cut gate out and back or the Edale and Jacobs Classic if anyone is up for it.

Hopefully see you on Wednesday evening, but no promises ๐Ÿ™

I am 100% riding tomorrow but only have 1% Whitwick route knowledge so hopefully someone with a sense of direction will be out!

Come on rascal - summer will soon be here!

As the Four Tops sang:

"I'll be there".

See you at 7 - it seems the powers that be at work have finally realised that recent expectations have been somewhat unrealistic, so I won't have to stay late...............yippeeeeeeee!

Nice reference Timba, as Freddie Trueman used to say "ah'll si thee next week".

Cheers to all who made it out (six - a record for recent times). A really great ride, in my opinion one of the best night rides we've done. Decent weather, good numbers and fun riding. No accidents and (shock horror) no mechanicals either.

See you next week, and if anyone else is up for the peaks on Saturday 22nd then let me know on here or in person on a Wednesday night.

Cheers - only two days to the weekend now.

Good ride tonight.
Me, Scandal, Danny, Fatbob, Jez and another newbie asbrooks (Andrew) headed out over Bardon Hill way. A no-grip climb was swiftly following by a dare-not-dab-brakes descent as doing so would have ended up with a face full of muddy turf. Plenty of 2 wheeled slides saw as end up bombing down the cowshitfest towards Mount St Bernard Abbey and sludgefest descent down to Blackbrook Reservoir. A blast down through Cademan Woods ended up with a very swift (and very nice) Hobgoblin at the Rag N Mop. A good ride all said and done.

Woodhouse Eaves 7pm next week.
There's a decent sized pool of people who have dipped a toe in the NWLRC since the arse-end of last summer. There should - all being well - be a good turnout next week too. Those of you who haven't been for while, come along. Let's get a good group together all in the same place at the same time...as the newbies will testify, the pace isn't too hideous. Even I can feel my mojo coming back after just 2 consecutive night rides...small steps and all that ๐Ÿ˜‰

The posh totty from last week might be in the Curzon - that would be reason alone to make the effort ๐Ÿ˜€

Lovely write up Rascal, the xenophobic totty sways it, I'm in next week, as is Rob who hasn't been for a very long time.

Danny, Do you have muddyfool's number? Might be worth seeing if he is ready for a ride.

just chilling with a single malt and some sons of anarchy, cheers for a good ride chaps.

Yes good ride last night chaps. Loads of mud which is always good. Shame about the bad cramp I had. Think the climb back up from Blackbrook triggered it. C u all next week at Woodhouse.

Hi Chaps, Thanks for letting me join in last night, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even the the bit through Grace Dieu woods without lights. ๐Ÿ™‚
My back survived well, not even a twinge this morning, although my legs are a little sore(can't believe how unfit I am).
So, to next week. Where are we meeting? Someone mentioned The Old Bulls Head in Woodhouse eves.

I'm loving all this talk of re-discovered mojos and wanting to know the meet for next week whilst riding shoes are still wet from the previous ride - good enthusiasm, people! Seriously, it would be good to get a groundswell of riders coming each week so that the typical numbers were above five each week.

The time and place of next week's meet is:

7pm Wednesday March 12th in the Woodhouse Eaves village car park.

Directions from the Old Bull's Head are:

Turn off of the main road at the pub and head into the village. Car Park is about 250 yards on the left - opposite doctors surgery. It has recycling bins and scout hut etc - you really cannot miss it.

Let's keep up the momentum..........

Ok chaps...a bit early for a roll call but I'm bored as the wife is watching the f*cking Voice on catchup.
I'm deffo in this week - only just got all the shit off the bike and the lights are on charge - see you at 7 at Woodhouse Eaves carpark. C'mon troops - lets have a record turnout ๐Ÿ˜›

Hopeful of being there. Antibiotics seem to already be sorting sinusitis, so should be ok on that front.

Family matters may intervene as my wife's grandma is seriously ill in the royal and my in laws are currently in South Africa. They should be back on Wednesday morning and hopefully things will have improved by then. If so, I should make it, if not then missing a bike ride will not seem important!

I am going to see how I am tomorrow,

Dislocated my thumb on Friday night and it's still a bit mangled. Ill have to see how it is as I don't want to do some serious damage before the 'dusty season' is upon us.

Sorry to hear that Danny, hope she makes a full recovery.
