I intend to do a bit of off road but mainly on river tow paths. Cyclocross single speed is probably the way I will go. Which rims are best for this?

Having been out of touch with cycling for the last two years, due to focusing on motorbikes, I have missed out on all this 29er business. Are these just strong road wheels and would they take a road tyre 700x25C

Cheers for any help

I have Mavic A319s on my tourer/winter commuter. Cheap but tough. Don't know about 29er rims specifically.

Cy at Cotic has some wheels in that are both disc and rim brake capable, these IIRC are fitted as std the Roadrat and the new Cyclocross 'X' bikes. He also has them as afater market. £125 I believe.

Oh and they are cartridge bearing hubs.

There are some open pros on mine at the mo, Have had 25 & 35c on them, seem to remember some folks on here saying they've tried 42s which look pritty big to me.

Have just ordered some XT hubs and aerotracks for a disc set, for under 150 inc spokes. The are a bit narrower than the pro's but people seem to manage CX races on some narrow lookin tyres.

The cotic ones sound a good deal though.

Mavic Open Pros. Expensive on their own but look for second-hand complete wheels and you should get a good price. Use mine with Goldtec hubs, very strong.
