Michelin dh24 - onl aout 1100gms each and will wear yu quickly. You'll become lightweight too if you use it for XC.

Don't bother with tubeless: You'll spend more time fitting them than riding

greasystain, I have read (not tested) that the Mountain Queens are supposed to be better than the Kings, I havent read a good report on them. What have you used before that they are better than?

is it best to go for Kevlar or wire bead?

I also notice the conti mountain kings come in 2.0. 2.2 and 2.4 widths - which is best?

The tread looks very open, do they grip well?

You can get them o flea bay from £24 up tp £31 depending on what type (folding or non folding and width)

What about Kenda's Freeride version of the Nevegal.

Granted its in a 2.5' width, but in reality, listed widths don't necessarily mean a great deal.
Its wire beaded single ply with a butyl insert to firm it up a bit.
Nice tyre and only ~1050g (300g lighter than the standard DH version)
I've definitely enjoyed that improved rotation weight over the regular tires.

2.4 and lightweight don't really work together, unless you're idea of lightweight is around a kilo...? What are you actually using them for?

Ive got some brand new bontrager Jones XR tyres which can be used tubeless or with tubes. Really comfy in the 2.25 width and do come up a bit wider when on the rim. Tough tyres but still light and very grippy/predictable. Also, nice and cheap! 🙂
Look in the classifieds or e-mail me at nug8321@hotmail.com

Maxxis Advantage. Big tyre though.

Jones XR's good also, as mentioned. Work suprisingly well in the mud too. Nowwhere near as big as a 2.4 Advantage though. Both dead easy to set up tubeless and work just fine IME.

cheak which mks they are on flea-bay, the standard folding don't use the black-chilli rubber and aren't supposed to be any good. friends and i have used the supersonic and protection versions in a 2.4 and they're fine. shame they don't fit my new wheels 🙁

With the Mountain Kings, the general view seems to be that the tyres with the standard rubber are rubbish but those with black chilli rubber are excellent.

The Supersonics are probably too lightweight for you if you're bothered about puncture resistance, unless you're willing to run them tubeless. The Protections are obviously tougher but I'm not sure what rubber they're made of.

Rubber Queen is a lot heavier, about 850g. A Superonic MK is about 590g. They're slim for a 2.4 though.

Kenda Nevegals in a 2.35 might be worth a go.

Mountain Kings - mine seem great most of the time, but do seem to 'let go' suddenly on hard corners - I don't know if its compound/tread/what, but it just feels like the tyre folds/moves and 'lets go' and 'grabs' again. Theyare great climbing and braking - just seems cornering at the ragged edge is unpredictable.
