I want to get a tag-a-long for my girls, any suggestions/hints would be well appreciated as I’ve no experience of them

you seem to be able to get two types, ones which are a complete “bike” and another type which is a kind of bar that attaches the child’s bike to your own. I think the latter seems a good choice because presumably you can go for a ride and simply hitch it up when they get tired.

what brands/prices are best ?

cheers

The bar one is a Trail-gator - better for when they are older and want to ride separately on occasion. They're ok, but nowhere near as stable as a tag-along. Tag-along is fine offroad, where as the Trail-Gator would be a bit risky.

I've still got our Tag-Along in the shed. You can have it for nothing of you're local. (Hants)

We used a trail-gator, couple of setup issued in that you need to do up the bolts "red-faced tight" as Guy Martin would say, but, brilliant in that you can tow them somewhere safely, then they can go off and ride around on their own

Never used one myself, but someone at work was speaking very highly of these -

I got a Universal Tag-a-long last year. Second hand I think it was £30-35 and a bit grubby. Stripped and painted now and looks great. Here

I considered the gator idea too, but the wee fellas bike only has 12" wheels and was a bit rubbish on rough trails.

whatever you get, make sure its a folding one. I regret getting a folding tagalong as they are fkn long and need to go in the boot!

I picked up a second hand Spokey-Jue for £25
Had to fit shorter cranks, smaller saddle and flat bars so my then-3 year old could ride it. i geuss as it was, a 7-year old could ride.

Now he's riding properly, we use a Trail-gator, so i can tow him on the longer climbs. Its certainly less stable, and is a pig to ride with on its own as its heavy and clanks around, but it is better than a tagalong as it means he can get out.

And +1 for crud-catcher on the tag-along. Rear mudguard is useful too if you do go off-road.

Edit - tag-along has been banished to the loft, aslong with his Scoot, waitng for his little brother to grow into it in a few years.

Got a Trail-Gator, as above crank everything super tight and it's fine even off road.

My lad is 4 and on a 16" wheel bike and it all seems to work well. even with my new 29er.
