hi,

looking at buying a new (and my first) *cough* roadbike.... shops ive been in so far have not really filled me with confidence regarding the fit / size required. im not going to name them, just keen to see who you use and reccomend.

Fred Bakers on Cheltenham Road did a 'proper' bike fiting for me a couple of years ago, involving lots of measuring of arms/legs etc. There was a charge but they refunded me as I bought a bike there. Plus you can use the bike fitting measurements at another shop when you (inevitably) buy your 'next' road bike...

Try Strada Cycles on North Street, Bedminster just up from the Tobacco Factory.

The guys in there are all roadies and Mike did set the shop up with a road specialist biased, hence the name.

They usually have a good range in and the first place I'd try for anything "skinny".

Bad Ass Bikes at Burrington Coombe. Box had 6/7 road bikes in last time I was there but can get quite a few. One of the most knowledgeable and helpful shop owners in the Bristol area

Yeah, little guy with dark/gingery hair. His bike knowledge is second to none and he has a couple of good mechanics working for him. I was in there last week and he had road bikes ranging from a £500 Giant to a £3000 full carbon beast.

Another vote for Strada. John's Bikes in Bath have excellent service.

Zero G have a reasonable selection of road brands as well. Also try Mud Dock.

Go and see my mate Craig at ZeroG/Giant concept store in Bradley Stoke.

He knows a thing or two about road bikes...

(also +1 for Dave at Bike-It in Radstock, or Richard at Live2Ride in Frome)

it wasnt Craig that served me, was James, but i understand now why you say he knows a little....roll on tommorrow night and the darkside!

Another vote for badassbikes, his new shop stocks loads of stuff from £600 to lots of £££

Honest and genuine bloke, ex race mechanic and races and sponsors a few people now, so he can recommend kit from personal experience rather than repeating what the mags say blindly.

Bad Ass Bikes is very good, but I was disappointed by Live 2 Ride in Frome. Never return my phone calls when I called them 3 times.

Just been up to check fitment / sizes etc, after all the groundwork was done yesterday only ended up in there for 15mins or so. A quick spin on the trainer, bit of advice and guidance on how it should "feel" (something I'm really struggling with - having not ridden a road bike before) from one of the guys there (maywell of been craig..??!) and i was done.

collecting a defy 2 tommorrow 🙂 think this may be the start of soemthing....

Thanks for all your help
