I think that Toras on my commuter are overkill, so thinking about replacing them with some rigid forks - need to be corrected for 100mm travel, so I guess 440mm length, and with disc mounts.
Looking to spend somewhere under £50 if possible. I prefer the look of straight forks rather than the raked ones like the Orange F8s. So far from what I've found the On Ones at £40 seem to be the best option - anybody got any experience of these? Or any other brands that I should be looking at, please? I seem to remember somebody posting up a link on here previously to a company that were selling rigid forks (mainly carbon iirc) at reasonable prices, but can't remember their name.
Kona P2
The carbon ones are on ebay
I had an original triple butted Kona P2 and they were lovely. I then built a bike with the disc ones when they came out and they were dull and lifeless (replaced with RC31). It looks like Kona make some triple butted disc forks now but they seem to be more like £70.

Aye, look on ebay for exotic carbon forks ... I've a few pairs and they've never been anything less than great. They will cost you a touch more than £50 though but I think exotic do alloy versions for around £50 but I've never tried 'em.
The eXotic ones are here £65 for Alloy and £85 for Carbon
Ah cool yes, it was the eXoctic ones that were linked to before, thanks. Does anyone know if they can be easily destickered (going for the stealth look on the commuter)? Or whether the on ones can be either?
Thanks for all replies so far.
I picked up some new RC31's from Pace, 440mm for my Obed and 420mm for my RC200 8)
They look fantastic, although they are £199 a pair.
I've got the On Ones on my GT commuter (paid a tenner extra for the tarty white though!) - not much to say really - they do the job. It would appear they cannot be de-stickered though, not easily at least. Depending on what surface you're riding rigids may get on your nerves a bit - I've got about 500m of pothole-filled farmtrack on my commute and rigid is a pain, but the other 8 miles is nice and smooth so I can live with it.
I've got the eXotic carbons on my mountain bike - I'll try and remember to have a look tonight and see if they can be de-stickered.
I use a Salsa Cromoto.
Very nice steel fork - comfortable, light for a steel fork, doesn't feel like you have an anvil up front.
Used one on a couple of builds and is still on my 29er lite ......
Oodles of room too.
The fork above is only 420mm axel to crown yet will happily take a 2.3'' 29er tyre and a 3'' 26er tyre with loads of room to spare.
The 440mm fork (100mm suspension corrected) can also be bought as a disc only too 🙂
Well worth a thought.
crispedwheel - the exotic forks are great value - but can't be destickerd - as they are under the gel coat - which so far is the only drawback -
Exocit ones definitely sound like a good option so far, thanks all. I've got some black fablon that I used on the commuter frame - looks a bit more 'obvious' than destickering, but does the job ok I think.
You can desticker the alloy Exotic forks, they are just stickers stuck onto the fork.
