I'm about to buy a 42t cassette sprocket to extend the range... But I'm a little bit confused, beceause there are so many manufacturers. Are there any significant difference between them?
What do you think about...
Aerozine?
RSP?
e-thirteen? (I've seen bad reviews.)
a2z?
Or anything else in this (lower) price range?
Thanks!
HOPE, I like their stuff, I've used one and it was fine, I'd reccomend this one,
xyeti - I'm sure Hope is fantastic, but costs twice of these above... ๐
I have bought a few OneUp converters. They arrive with a 16t as well.
I also buy their rear mech plates which work really well.
All worked fine for me, not tried any others though.
You have to buy direct so you wont see them in the usual browsing sites.
Jef Wachowchow- I've a OneUp RadR cage and a Shimano Zee mech, but have to find a cheaper cog at the moment.
and Hope only do a 40t
if 40 is low enough, then consider the works-components-40t-shimano-cassette-range-extender
I went with OneUp again, mostly because they did the first actually good expander option- I figure they deserve the custom, rather than the many copyists.
I wouldn't use their 16T though, I put a genuine Shimano one on mine, works better. Their Radcage/Radrcage is well worth it too (basically makes the whole deal work like OEM- easy setup and reliability. Though there are other products out there now to do the same, I've not tried those.
Northwind - Sure, OneUp is the name, they are revolutionary, but... as I said, I need a cheaper option. ๐
also saw those bad reviews of the E13 but was offered one cheap so tried it and found it to work fine.
No sign of any flexing, which seemed to be the main concern.
Ecky-Thump - And what about chain drop, and back pedaling issues?

Oops, sorry, saw that post but didn't realise it was from the OP as well ๐ณ
And what about chain drop, and back pedaling issues?
Never experienced any right up to the point where it wore out.
Did file down the shifting ramps as a precaution before fitting it but that might not have been necessary.
Replaced it with a works components 40t which appears very good quality but obviously a bit smaller.
I thought consensus now was a full cassette from Sunrace/Praxis etc
I thought consensus now was a full cassette from Sunrace/Praxis etc
If starting from scratch, I'd go with that option too.
Sunrace 11-42t for me after going the expander route previously. It's not quite the smooth shifting of XT, but very close.
RSP 42t here working very well for months now.
I've got an uberbike one that works fine.
+1 Sunrace cassette.
11-40 sunrace for me, no dramas fitting and works very well.
And another happy SUNRACE user. Why pay 40ish quid for one cog, when you can get 10?
42 is Sooooo last year don't ya know! 50 is where the action starts this year..... ๐
Rsp is fine, but as stated, I'd just get a sunrace next time.
I would just buy a Sunrace cassette.
+1 for Uberbike
I'd be interested in the Sunrace cassette, but I already have an XT, so... I'll try one of the 42t cogs above.
I've just gone to a 42t Sunrace MS3 from XT + Hope 40T. With the Rad R cage on an XT clutch mech the shifting is 99% as good as Shimano and so far no problems at all.
Sunracee, with radcage for me
But otherwise I'd probably go with superstar, UK made and good price
There is only 40t Superstar cog at the moment! ๐
Uberbike works great , so did my Hope one
Sunrace 42t XT mech,job done.
Oh, my dear friends... did you read the questions, or just write about what you have? ๐ I have a beautiful polka dotted ball, but I think this topic isn't started to write about that. ๐
Anyway, thanks for the answers!
I think the point is that you can buy a purpose made cassette for less than most extenders, which also seems to be most peoples preference.

TBH it was simply timing and the sunrace cassette not being about (or known that me) at the time that persuaded me to go with a Superstar expander. It works well but when it's knackered I will probably replace the whole cassette with a sunrace jobbie...
