Morning all,

Just spending the day sorting through my shed, and I've decided that I would lie to try a pannier and rack bags on my commuter instead of the rucksack I currently use, does anyone have any suggestions of a rack I can use in my old 2008 Specialized Langster,

Many thanks and I hope the weather is better where you are today
(hence the shed tidy)

Tubus are the best - at a serious cost. I have never used old man mountain ones - supposed to be decent quality. I have broken several cheapo ones - but that ws carrying camping kit offroad. most racks will fir any bike - you might he to space out the lower mount to clear the caliper. Do you have rack mounts on the frame?

Panniers - again ortleib are very good at serious cost - carradince ones are god and a bit cheaper.

Blimey, that one up there is narrow. Like it.

Panniers I skimped on, and now wish I'd just bought ortlieb ones in the first place.

Ortlieb roller panniers are one of those rare products that is absolutely perfect. There are light, robust, and completely waterproof. Nothing else will do.

(I have owned a Carradice saddle bag before as well, which i sold after getting my Ortliebs)

If you mean these Carradice: Carradry panniers, then very similar.

I have Ortliebs (truly excellent, as the roller design is so simple). Friend has the Carradrys - also excellent, and have the advantage of being made in Lancashire (supporting British manufacturing).

Carradry fixing system is more fiddly but more secure. a half empty bag does not work very well, they are significantly bigger than ortleib and have external pockets as well as straps for waterproof / karrimats etc

I've also got the tortec velocity rack and ortlieb roller panniers. They all work really nicely. IIRC sjscyles.co.uk was the best price for them earlier this year. I use the front ortliebs, they should fit all you need for a commute or light tour, tho I also keep some large old karrimors to do food shoppping.

I use Altura Dry Lines and have been impressed with their durability and waterproofness, they are on the chunky side though.

and have the DOUBLE advantage that you can get their cosmetic seconds direct from the factory for about half price (eg a reflective sticker peeling away).
Bargain.
Give them a ring and ask what they've got.

I went down the pannier route a bit over a month ago after moving and having a longer commute now and I go via the supermarket on my home
I went for a Topeak super tourist disc rack and a pair of Ortliebs

I've been very happy with them but haven't really tried any others personally
