At the risk of looking as stupid as I sometimes can be, can I fit a standard 4 bolt Middleburn Hardcoat ring [this one] to an XT hollowtech II crank or does it have to be the specific Middleburn XT ring?

I presume if I'm going 2x9 [granny and middle] I'll need to use narrower chainring bolts as well?

If its M760 you need the specific ring. If its M770 be careful if your mixing with shimano rings because shimano have offset the rings on the newest XT and XTR stuff, so standard rings may need spacing.

as per anc's comments, M760 needs a special one, with short chainring bolts.

OK. Turns out my cranks are m760 which is a bit of a pain as CR (who I've got vouchers for) only do 32T for the XT crank and I want 36T.

So if I where to use my LX crank would the standard 4 bolt ring will be OK?

See my reply on the other thread - in short, I'm using a M760 with normal chainrings (and short bolts for running 2x9)
