[#11835245]

Morning all, after the PSA on here a few weeks ago I bought a new brand-x ascend post which I’m really happy with, apart from the lever, which is absolute bobbins compared to the wolftooth one I have on my other bike (regular, not light action).

So before I buy another wolftooth (probably the light action as they seem to be a tenner cheaper than the regular ones) is there another MMX compatible dropper lever I should be looking at?

The ztto wolftooth clone seems to work well. Lever length is the same as the light action.

Yeah I’m liking the bonty one more than the brand x one. It’s matchmaker and I spec 2 compatible as well as bar clamp so for £25 hard to beat

I bought a ztto one and a bonty one. Bonty I spec is really nice. Was about £22 delivered. That was a while ago though.

I don't understand what's so wrong with the Brand X ones that folk are prepared to pay the incredibly overpriced amounts to get 3rd party ones??

The BX one I had was shit. That's why.
The way it bolted on to the clamp was shit. The cable adjuster was shit.

This was an early one. Went to the bontrager non-MMX, then the MMX one. Both light years ahead. Even the Fox Transfer lever is better.

I like it when I press a lever for it to move in the intended direction, not slightly in the intended direction but also in All The Other Directions, and I also like it to not rattle.

That's why I don't use the BrandX one.
FWIW I've got a OneUp v1 and v2, and a Bonty one, all a vast improvement, but the OneUps are my preferred ones.

Quite happy with the brand x 1x lever, nothing special it just works.

That said I do love my wolf tooth lever and I'm happy to buy the £15 adaptor for every time my set up changes but wouldn't fork out £60 for a whole lever again now that there are so many much cheaper decent alternatives out there bx included.

Thanks for the replies.

ZTTO looks perfect, but no MMX option that I can find.

Going to give the Bonty one a go.

I have the Wolf Tooth one, operating a Brand X internal post and it is a lovely bit of kit. Great machining, detailing and a super smooth action. I also like the way that Wolf Tooth sell spares and clamp adapters so it will hopefully last many years.

They are very expensive for what they are though.

I wonder if their quality control is a bit hit and miss? I've also wondered why people would bother replacing the lever as mine and the couple I've fitted for friends have just worked. They don't rattle or wobble and the lever action is light.

The PNW one is great, but expensive.

The Bontrager one is better than the ZTTO then, other than being MMX compatible?

My son’s bike had a bontrager post before I changed it for a Brand X .. the only difference between the levers as far as I could tell, was the Bonty one was silver.

The Bonty MK2 lever is the one to go for imo.👍 Nicely built and can fit MMX or ispec(I don't know what type, I only use SRAM.) Grub screw at lever end which is great too.

The Bonty MK1 is good too but not MMX.

Both are far better made than the ZTTO in build quality but the ZTTO does work fine. No idea if now MMX compatible though.

This is the mk 2 I refer to.

I swear by PNW Loam, really well built and you get to colour code it to the rest of your bike which is always important. Can buy from a UK seller here Linky Link

I do t see that the Bontrager one looks better quality than the ZTTO one, one is CNC'd and has a bearing and the other I think doesn't. Fwiw the BX one works ok, it's not terrible but other options are a bit more smooth and ergonomic

The bonty mk1 is kind of enormous and ugly, it does work well. Not really a fan of the Onone (and it puts the cable nipple at the other end). The Bikeyoke works really well and is smol, but it's also expensive and bends a little easily.

You probably know this, but if you dial out the cable slack it'll remove most of the rattle.

Actually,I don't think either Bonty has a bearing? Not that I think they are important in this context though.

I agree about the BX ones, they are a little "loose" but still very usable, the new style one is a bit better designed I believe, too.
