I have fitted Shimano BR M765 levers and cilipers on Tektro discs(I didn't like the feel from the Tektro levers)this resulted in better modulation but less power.
Would upgrading just the disc give me better power?

No. Well... they would if you bought bigger discs. Changing a 160 on the front to a 200 for example. They'd probably be about half the weight too. Superstar discs are cheap, cheerful and work fine

No, but you'd have to buy the correct adaptor to hold the disc further out. Same caliper can be used.

What about floating rotors, worth the extra cash?just looked on superstar, the 203 floating rotors are heavier.I ride mainly xc trail centers etc.If the only benifit would be less warping would these be overkill?

I wouldn't bother too much about the back brake. The front does all the work. So you could upgrade with a 203mm disc and a 203mm brake adapter for 20 quid

And it will make you stop faster. Just make sure you order the right fitting. Its probably a post mount to IS mount

I have some Alligator and KCNC flyweight rotors that are excellent.

The skeleton rotor clears water very quickly and no chance of brake fade with my 50kg at English trail centres.

Check out XC-Racer for very good prices (I do not work for them).

Make sure your forks are also rated for the bigger discs.

Big disc on the rear needs to fit inside the stays too.
203mm is MASSIVE. 180 will suffice IMO.

203mm is def overkill on an xc bike. 180mm front will do all the stopping you need ๐Ÿ˜†

Will 180mm fit in most rear ends?I ride a 17" 2010 spec hardrock pro,it came stock with 160mm?
If they will fit I'll just go 180mm f/r

180mm wouldn't fit in my Handjob, I can tell that without trying!

My XT brakes had loads of power (before they started leaking!) so would check everything else before worrying too much about disc size. Are the pads bedded in? No contamination? Rotors cleaned? Brakes bled?

180mm front and 160mm rear is all you should need.

I was a little worried about disc contamination too.I fitted superstar kevlar pads three rides ago, last ride was a scorcher and the power did feel better.Ive just ordered new 180mm disc and mount so ill rub off the pads before fitting, guess ill find out soon.
