I am looking for a new fork my Santa Cruz BLT but can't decide what to go for so appreciate some advice/thoughts on the subject?

I currently have PIKE 454 on the BLT but have not been happy with them.

Thanks

Vanilla's ?

I have had 2 sets on my 5Spot and been very happy with both. Just keep an eye out for stanchion wear.

I have looked at the Vanillas and the Lyrik both get good reviews the Vanilla more so I was wondering if I should consider anything else too?

Main reason for wanting to change was that I have always had coil before and just prefer the feel of the them but heard good things about the pikes so thought give them a crack.

Why did the stanchions wear?

because fox stanchions do wear. They are coated with a special material that lasts to infinity and beyond in california, but about a year in the uk.

i must admit you are in a minority if you don't like pikes

lyriks have "proper" commpression damping if thats your thing (hi\lo) but at 160mm a bit overboard for most uk riding, oh and the coil ones are pretty heavy

Fox have ongoing problems with stanchion wear. Its a whole can of worms. They recommend a 15hr service interval for UK riding in order not to invalidate the warranty. Take it or leave it.

Wait for 2010 Marzocchis to come out (probably about 3 months)

They have the old style open bath system so no worn stanchions and no silly service intervals, but they also should have excellent damping and Ti springs so quite light too
