Looking to spend around £100-£150 on some brakes but not sure which ones to go for.
Any suggestions? I mainly do cross country with the occasional downhill.

I'm currently a big fan of my Shimano SLXs which you could get for that money. Good stopping power with 180mm up front, nice lever action etc

shimano lx is all you will ever need, i have juicy ultimates on another bike but the shimano brakes easily compete and are a bargain on merlin.
all my other bikes have the lx's simply top quality.
