[#6997725]

I have a giant defy and a saracen hack. I have had the hack for about 18 months and ridden it's a fair bit, I have had the defy since September and not really ridden it much.

Which one should I sell? Which one would you sell and why? I alternate between selling each one. The hack is great, easy to ride and has discs. The defy is a lighter more proper road bike which I got for longer races which I have 3 of this year.

I tend to commute on my ht not really either of the road bikes so selling the hack would make sense as it would leave me with a proper road bike. However I have a lot more miles on the hack having done a fair few races on it last year so am more familiar with it!

What would you do?

Sell the giant if you have to sell one. You'll miss the hack more as you've ridden it more.

What is stopping you riding the Defy? Position, comfort, too nice to bimble around on? I would sell the hack if you must because it will be less suitable for the other rides you have planned.

Try commuting on the Defy and see how you get on. I take mine into work on nice days and I never tire of riding it. It is however not a bike for riding into town!

There is nothing at all stopping me riding it, I just haven't really ridden it! I commute on my ht, ride with my gf on my hack and the defy kind of gets left! I don't doubt at all it is the perfect bike for longer races hence the quandary!!

I have the Conwy grand fondo in 2 weeks so not sure what bike to take. Hack as it's familiar or defy as that's what it's for. I suppose that that race will be the decider!

Are these "proper" races you are doing (for which discs are banned) or sportives?

Get out on the Defy and see what you reckon on it.

Sounds like the one to keep from a pragmatic point of view, but only if you enjoy riding it obvs.

Do you ride many bridleways on the Hack?

No just sportives so no bans on disc brakes.

I might be interested in the Defy depending on size and price.

No not on the Hack I don't. It's just being used as a road bike. The original idea when I got it was to try cx etc on it but that never materialised!

I'm going to get out on the defy this weekend and hopefully stuff will be clearer then.

Defy is a defy 1 2013 size medium. All details are in an add on the classifieds.

I sold my Defy and Focus carbon road bike after getting my Giant TCX. If you don't ride it, sell it.

Sell the Defy. Maybe use the money for lighter wheels and fast tyres for the Hack (the original spec ones will probably be quite heavy)

They are heavy no doubt! I Want to try and avoid Spending lots on the hack to make it more like the Defy. The Cash from either sale will be spent on mtb stuff as that's my favourite for of cycling!

I'd definitely give the defy a fair crack of the whip before you flog it.

I used to have a disc CXer but found it too much of a compromise on the road.

If the Defy has cheap Tektro brakes you might want to change the pads for something like Kool Stop Salmons for a big increase in performance.

I put some 105 calipers on the defy after its 1st ride. Not 100% sure if I have ridden it after that though!

I have a Defy 1, and also put 105 brakes on it (to match the rest of the groupset) which improved the braking, especially when coupled with Swiss-stop green blocks.
