Morning ladies and gents,
First time posting on the forum, some good info on here which is great!
I’m looking for a new hardtail, the last coupe of years I’ve just been riding and XC bike, was originally a GT but swapped the frame to muddyfox Molotov. So that was a 26” wheel bike.
I’m now looking at upgrading and pretty much landed on either the Merida Big Trail 500 or the Orbea Laufey H30.
Where I live there are some pretty big climbs, mix of on road, forest trails, some steep descents etc so thought trail bike would be better than XC bike.
Also as I’m 6ft 3” I definitely need an XL, but read the Merdia needs to be sized up. The geometry for both bikes is almost identical.
Would love any advice and if anyone has one of these bikes then be interested to hear about it!

Hey, thanks for the reply! Can I ask how tall are you and what size did you go for? Does it fit you well?
6ft. On a large. It's fine though I could manage bigger. Go XL.
For some balance, I've just managed to secure a Laufey H30. Only collected it this week, so yet to ride it. My short list was the same as the OP, Merida Big Trail of Laufey. Supply made the decision for me.
At 6'1" I went for L in the Laufey, but was looking for XL in the Merida.
