Camping in Bourg at the start of Aug with the family, not been to that area before. Looking for advice on what bike to take and need to weigh up the anthem, an older jekyll enduro bike, or a road bike. Anyone care to weigh in on what has worked for them in a family sort of context [e.g. mainly riding with the kids but a couple of large ones on your own?]
I'm comfy on the anthem with technical stuff but I cannot do steep on it, whereas I don't really like pedalling the jekyll around the place but am miles more confident on it for steeper stuff. Kids are 8 and 11 and will not be interested in anything difficult, older one can do UK trail centre red sort of level.
I'd be happy on the road bike but doubt there would be enough scope for family road riding? But like I say I don't know the area.
Will you be getting a guide and going off piste or sticking to marked trails in Les Arcs/Tignes etc?
Hadn't occurred to me to get a guide, can you hire one for a day? Was thinking more like marked easier stuff with the family and prob put something together from trailforks / strava / a map for myself. Would prefer more XC style but if it's a constraint in that area I'd be fine with the enduro bike.
Take the enduro bike.
Went to that area with 9/11year old kids two years ago and found my bike seriously limiting. So much so that I bought an Enduro on my return.
Which I'll be using in its intended environment in Tignes/Les Arcs in early August.

Once you're off the posted runs it is steep around there, that said it's not super gnar so you don't need massive travel necessarily. Best to take something you're comfortable on.
The road riding is pretty epic however.
