I ride quite a bit on shared bike/pedestrian paths.
I need a bell to fit on my road bike (Cube Attain).
Any recommendations?

Spurcycle bells work for me. Neat. Small. Nice tone. Last more than a single ride like the Knog bell.

I was gifted a Spur bell and it was lovely, like playing an instrument rather than dinging a bell. Then it fell off on a train journey because I wasn't using the fat handlebar attachment (which I didn't know existed and would have removed my one gripe about attaching it to OS bars...)

I can't quite bring myself to sped the money on a new one yet. Knockoffs are available.

Knockoff Spur cycle bell or knockoff Knog Oi if you have 31.8mm or 25.4mm bars (it's much louder than the Spur but I have 35mm bars so can't run one). They're on Ebay as invisibell and are much more robust than the real Knog ones.

Knog Oi!

Small and discrete, doesn't take up too much space

I like the headset spacer type, keeps it out the way of the bars. I have a fairly cheap one from Actor, has quite a nice ding.

+1 crane mini suzu.
I've got the stem spacer one, lovely to look at and a nice loud tone.
I got mine from here https://www.bricklanebikes.co.uk/crane-sakura-stem-bell

I've got a rockbros spurcycle knock off. In fact I've got 4, one on each bike (no, I can't afford £100 of bike bells)

The 'paperclip' ones are good, the ones with a solid knocker are rubbish.

I used the free one that came on my son’s bmx last week. All the people i pinged at heard it. I think you can get them for 99p on ebay or Amazon.

I've tried bells and found that sometimes older people just don't hear them. So nowadays I just call out a cheery "bike behind" when I'm about 50 yards away, which they always hear as the human ear is more attuned to voices.

... and then they say "Haven't you got a bell?" as you pass.

and then they say “Haven’t you got a bell?” as you pass.

I’ve gotten that response after dinging bell and shouting 😂

The best thing is when (approaching them from behind) one of the old couple is deaf, yet the other one hears you (they incline their head at the bell and your voice) yet pretend NOT to hear you. They then enjoy watching their deaf-half get a ‘surprise’ as you crawl past halfway up the hedgerow.

Deaf person: (sarcastically) ‘Thanks for the warning’
Me: ‘Sorry, (pointing at their partner) she/he doesn’t appear to be working!’ 🤣
