[#6167688]

So I am after a pair of tires to go on my covert build, I am currently borrowing my buddies wheels with my old tires I had in the garage, stans arch ex with advantage and high roller tires.

I will be ordering my new wheels this week, flow ex on hope pro2 hubs, and not sure on tires, its between

Maxxis minion dhf 2.5 super tacky front, minion dhf 2.5 maxxpro rear
Schwalbe Hans dampf trailstar 2.35 front, Hans dampf pacestar rear.

I have always been a maxxis man, running minions/high rollers, but for some reason I'm dying to try schwalbe.

The bike is used from trail riding, gisburn, llandegla, bpw, etc, to downhill, stiniog, inners etc.

I'm not one to swap tires about, I'm wanting a good all rounder.

I run the Hans Dampf tires on my Covert. Can't fault them.

I live in the Alps so they see their fair share of long climbs and steep and rocky and rooty descents. Seem great alround. Most of the guys here are also running them.

I've got HD up front and NN on the rear (evos) on my covert and I find them brilliant. I run with tubes and at around 35psi and have no problems with punctures. They're pricy though.

Thanks for the replys, I am steering towards the hd, the big size appeals to me, I'm pretty sure they will both be better than my riding.

I think your getting confused, these aren't enduro, all mountain tires are hexaganol

I have NN pacestar rear and Hans Trailstar front and they are great on my Mega running tubeless. Don't know if it's just me but the front seems quite sensitive to pressure, theres a definate sweet spot for grip. Draggy as hell on tarmac though. Thankfully it doesn't see too much of it.

I ride rocky stuff and currently on a Chunkey Monkey front Racing Ralph UST rear combo. Works well.

Hans Dampf rear Magic Mary front if you really don't ever want to have to change tyres.

Wasn't very impressed with HDs myself. Of your choices I'd have the Minions

(I'd fit Butcher Controls myself- a better Minion. But that depends how hard you are on sidewalls I think)

Super gravity are the DH spec ones, overkill for trail centre riding. German online retailers are good value for HDs if you're shopping around.

Can't fault my HD's.

They've last well although they are going off the boil a bit now they're getting a bit old and worn. They work forme in all but tthe grimmest conditions, don't weigh too much and have been pretty puncture proof when run tubeless. I'm going to get a Magic Mary for the front and a Rock Razor once they're in stock. I'll chuck my front HD on the rear once it gets sloppy again.

I've never got on with Minions really and have always preferred the High Roller but the HD's are lighter and a bigger volume.

If you're riding Gisburn / Degla I've always got on well with Mountain King 2.2s.

Same as you when wet / DH (high roller / minion combo)

I put on the supergravity flavour Dampfs for last years alps trip, and due to a combination of lazyness and lack of time, they have actually stayed on all year! Yeah, they are heavy (compared to a more XC tyre) but i've started to really enjoy the just "bash it through" security they bring, and not having to really think or worry too much about what you are riding over etc!

After the weekends rather wet ride in Wales, i can also confirm they work well when riding down rivers.........

Minion DHF front and rear. 2.35 rather than 2.5 i reckon. Super Tacky on the front is my favourite, but currently running 60a F & R at the mo as thats what was in the garage.
