I'm another year older next month and have asked for a new Camelbak but has anyone got any recommendations?

Considered so far the Hawg, Mule and Havoc but how do the others compare Dakine etc?

sorry, I meant to say, I've got a Dakine Nomad, I currently rent it out to a Northern European family of 12 political dissidents, that said I did turf them all out of it and use it for a quick trip to the supermarket, its got loads of pockets, one good for tools, pump, maps and just about everything you could possibly think of, its in red plaid so It also makes me look a little more like a serial killer than normal. Its a very good bag, I'm currently lookig for something towards the other end of the spectrum now, something small and light suitable for 4-5hr rather than 8-24hr jaunts!

Mr Nutt relevant and to the point as always.

Looks like another one to add to the list!

I had just the same sort of dilemma, wanted a smaller hydration pack - bought a Kriega Hydro 3.

Comes in pretty expensive, and you'll have to buy an extra 5 or 10 litre pack - but the quality is superb. Pack stays put on your back without any movement.

Havoc is a large day pack, it's what I was using in France when we went DHing. Have a small fleecy zipper inside, then 2 small zippers and it has a seperate pocket for the 3 litre bladder so that it doesn't "intrude" on space. Definately worth looking at, although it is a lot of money, but they are very durable and last for years!

I got a Vaude Splash Air 20+5 for Christmas and it's a nice bag (doesn't come with a bladder though). My only complaint so far is the lack of compartmenty type bits in the front pocket - it's a case of just lob everything in.

I prefer it to Camelbaks as the back system keeps most of it off your back so you don't get really sweaty. I think Deuter do a similar system.

I got a Deuter Race EXP Air for my birthday and am really pleased with it. Not sure if you'd call it all day though at 12 litres?

I also considered the Kriega R15 and one of those Wingnut ones, but they were more expensive and I couldn't actually check them out anywhere.

As Stumpy says, if you're a sweaty bast then check out the trampoline back types - Deuter, Vaude etc. I've got a Deuter Cross Air EXP which I use for walking as well as bike trips where I'm packing spare clothes etc. I think it's around 18L with a bit extra if you unzip the accordion - not much division in the main compartment but plenty of other stowage spaces for food, spares etc.
