[#1648517]

I'm going away next week and want to take the bike with me, so I'm looking at off-the-peg rather than custom build. Current shortlist:-

Genesis Altitude 10
Whyte 901
Orange Crush
Orange P7

Ultimately, I'll probably cannibalise the bits for a different frame, likely to be something from Ragley or Cotic, as and when something suitable appears the classifieds. Which of the above would be the most suitable donor?

I'm thinking the Crush at the moment...but donor or no donor, I really fancy a steel frame! Contrary, I know.

Ta,
Rusty

p.s. meant to mention, it's a Cyclescheme purchase, so sale bargains are probably a no-no.

Cheers,

I'd go with the P7, you'd possibly wind up wanting to keep the frame, if time is short though I'd have thought a genesis is more quickly/easily obtainable and possibly better specced at ~£1K... Not sure on that though.

P.S. Have you considered a Boardman? good specs for the money if you're thinking "donor" as you said...
And easy to obtain from the local Halfrauds...

Boardman pro, Reba's, XO gearing, Elixir brakes and ritchey finishing kit. supposed to be a nice frame too.

Whyte 901? http://www.whytebikes.com/2010/901.html
£1099 but most shops would let you add the £99.

Those Boardman bits would go nicely on a Soul, depends on fork travel though.

Do you need to pass the bits onto another frame?

I've got an Altitude 10 and it's fantastic, only poor bits are the tyres.

Halfords don't do Cyclescheme, so Boardman is out. Besides, I'm not convinced the components on the Boardman are the best fit for a Ragley...forks too short etc. That's why, component-wise, I was leaning towards the Crush with the 140mm Fox 32.

The Whyte 901 is on my list, but what makes that a better poposition as a donor for a likely match up to a Blue Pig over anythig else?

Orange Crush might be worth a look. I'm sure I've seen some places do a C2W version of it for £1k.

having ridden a 901, I'm not convinced you'll still want a blue pig once you have.

You'll do well to get the paperwork sorted for next week if my company scheme is anything to go by!

I'd go for the Boardman for components.

I'm looking to do a similar thing with a Edinburgh Cycles Revolution Triad zero. good kit on it apart from the bars (too narrow) and the stem (too long. check it out.

Rusty... Our firm ONLY participates in the C2W scheme through Halfrauds. Wish I could just go to the LBS 😥

Halfords will still get you almost any bike you like. You just need to contact them and find out how.
