[#3109916]

Im running a whyte 805 and looking to swap the forks for something a bit better than the recon silver coils.

Whats the forum opinion on my options.

Spending £700 is not really an option. Budget probably around £300. Is second hand the way to go or should i only look at new.

Will i really benifit from a swap?
p.s. i quite like Rockshox SID but there are so many variations of them.

Not sure i want something thats damaged and needs £300 spent on them.

Just not sure about second hand it seems that forks are something that take a bit of a punding and would be easy to just sell on whaen they are knackered to an unsuspectng person like myself.

I might be wrong im pretty new to the mtb scene.

Thats a good price but i think £450 is a bit of a stretch for me, im just not convinced that i need forks that are that expensive.

2nd hand black box reba teams, if you can afford a front hub swap too the maxle one is even better (easily serviced/dropped to 100mm). Almost as good as fox and lasts three times as long 😀

I wouldn't buy second hand at the moment when there are a lot of deals available. I bought a pair of SID World Cups off Merlin with 47% reduction. Check out Merlin, OnOne and others for big discounts.
SID RLT or RLTi are awesome also ...

Second hand Reba. There is lots about as thy are a really good selling fork and come on a lot of decent bikes. People with more money than sense will always upgrade for no real reason so you can get a bargain. I have seen lots go on here and ebay at half of what you your budget is. Some of them in mint condition too.

Love my SID - have owned two - general xc use and the occasional TQ and 24-hr race.

Edit: ...and I'm 14st so not a lightweight! 🙁

Cant waint now, probably wont come till Wed but at least i will be able to get them on for the weekend and get out on Sat Morning.

Really looking forward to getting them finally i am feeling a bit fitter too, out for 30 mile on the road bike and flt great, finally got over 15mph average. Its been 15 years since i have seen these kinds of speeds. The only way is up for the winter, i just hope 1 ride a week will be enough.

if you've got a SID, take a look at where the front wheel sits in the fork.

I'd get some of the Merlin Fox RLs. I've tried previous RLCs and I never used the extra dials

Love my SID team, wouldn't be without it. I have had Fox and Manitou but nothing really compares, the fox's are plusher with better small bump sensitivity but the SID's are far more reliable feel stiffer and the damping is great. Don't use a Ti skewer though as the wheel will run off center!

I use a 22 gram Ti skewer on my SID's and they sit perfectly . No issues in 800+ hard miles.

Had two sets of Reba Race's over the years (my current set are about 18 months old & I had a set on an earlier bike which I ran for about 2 years) & have been very pleased with them.

No problems/faults/issues with them so far & all I've ever done is service them myself.

Based on what I sold a set for you should be able to get one for about £200 (mine were standard QR), you might have to pay a bit more for a bolt through fork.

I dont have the forks yet, but why whats wrong

loads of SIDs aren't straight and the front wheel sits/tilts over to one side.

It's happened on my forks and they were warrantied but the new lowers still aren't right.
