Right I have narrowed it down to a selection of bikes I think will be suitable but really dont know how to decide which to buy ? I will mostly be riding in woods and hills offroad.
Here the list:
Kona Kula 2012
Cube ltd SL 2012
Trek 6900 2012
Giant XTC Comp 3 2012
Canyon ??
Whyte 809 2011
I am being drawn to the Giant as it has a carbon frame and good componants. Any views welcome ?
Thanks

This is your job???
Just gone through the same senario looked at very similar choices cuble ltd race 2012, boardman pro etc, then eventually found this Merida O nine pro 1000d from my lbs in Newcastle which was currently on sale down to £1150 and as I have bought from them before got an extra 10% off - bargain. Only advice would be to shop around and many bike schemes you can buy off the internet on one whippet at £999 at the moment also.
Ive just been looking at the On-one Whippet and it looks real nice. So many to choose fro. Not seen the Merida before I'll take look. thanks

Didn't know your commute had to be onroad to qualify
Just noticed this post - if you are buying via Cycle Scheme you have to get the latest (ie 2013) bikes (where available) and pay full RRP. The Bike to Work scheme allows syou do do deals on older/sale bikes.
I'm currently looking too - with the intention of getting it at Xmas (when we get the Scheme on the Annual Payroll Choice).
I'd come down to
Cube Ltd Pro or Race (in either 26 or 29er),
Cube Ltd SL 29er
Trek X-Caliber 29er.
Will watch the thread for other suggestions!

I got a 2012 Cube Ltd Pro from Leisure Lakes Bikes for the reduced price @ £849 when the 2013 model was available. Cycle Scheme don't insist you get the latest or pay RRP, that is down to the store you buy from. They also allowed me to make up the £1000 with any other accessory, not just "safety" equipment, so I also included shoes, decent pedals, shock pump etc.
I know some stores add 10% to discounted bikes (or take them back to RRP if that's less) due to the charges from Cycle Scheme, but they don't all do that.
The Cube is a great bike btw...I would definitely recommend.
gavlp - Where does it mention that on the cyclescheme site please ?
If thats the case then that seriously limits my choice above.
thanks for info though

It doesn't but the shops have to pay a kickback of 10% so are less inclined to take even less on a sale bike
Zappa69 - agree with jota180 - it dont say it anywhere, but both the LBS I spoke to last week stated that in order to cover the costs they would have to charge full RRP in order to cover the costs and still make a profit. Obviously I could top up with my own cash if the desired bike was over the £1k voucher.
oggy07 - thanks for the info - I might look at another shop or two.
TBH I may just take the LBS up on their 18 month 0% Interest Credit deal as it I can negotiate a better bike that way, and the works Cycle Scheme aint looking that much of a saving. Flogging my old bike should get me the required 10% deposit!

Oddest commuting I've ever heard of, F-M.
we have a 3K limit and don't have to buy a BIKE. Parts are fine. Zipp 404s will speed my commute, greatly 😈 . And I've tested the XTC Composite and thought it was great. Wouldn't commute on it, mind.
Half my commute is offroad
Giant XTC Comp 3 2012
Where can you get these for £1000? 🙂
Cheers

On-One add the 10%, so the Whippet is £1100 C2W.

Wheels would be an asessable benefit in kind as only provision of cycles and safety equipement qualify for the exemption. Wheels are not safety equipment.
An XTC with 404's would still be a bike. Might have trouble stopping, mind.
I got this on the C2W scheme last year. It was a touch over £1k (i changed a few bits straight away). There's a couple of One Ons in or around the thousand pound mark if you like that sort of thing.
My commute is 27 miles of driving. Wouldn't dream of taking the 456 on the motorway 😀
Meandyuk - you can gt the giant here
