I've seen mentions on STW of Stone Edge quarry near Chesterfield. It's near one of my regular commutes so fancied putting my bike in the car and stopping off for a peep. Anyone got any more info on what's there?

Its an old quarry here at the junction between Matlock Rd and Darley Dale;

We used to ride there years back. In the actual quarry there were a lot of MXers so we rode down short, steep rocky paths to build our balls up. It worked at the time - fully rigid, lycra'd up, thems were the days.

In the woods below, ie between the junction and High Lane, there are a few trails which we used to ride the most. Haven't been for years and they were falling into disrepair but have seen guys in there making the most of it. Its not steep extreme stuff, but potential for some quality 1 - 2 minute tracks. We used to time ourselves and having never raced, the buzz was fantastic. I'd love to go back, but probably best to keep the memories...

It'll probably be this one up near spitewinter:

Not been there for about 10 years but it used to be good for an hour or so. It is/was a place where the crossers went.

It is at the junction of A619 and A632 out of Chesterfield towards Matlock.

Not worth a special journey. Not all of it is now legal

judging by the maps I drive straight past it so might be worth a post-ride play
