I've been working away from home for 18 months and I'm having the first 2 weeks of October off when I finish this job

We want to go away somewhere warm and sunny, cheapish, relaxing, nice grub, not too long a flight. Not a chavvy clubbing area either.

Any ideas?

With or without bikes? Canary Islands are pretty nice at that time of year.

Maeira's lovely, m'dear.

Quiet? Yep.
Seriously, they turn off all the lights about 9pm. 🙂
The two national dishes are fish & chips & kebabs.
I kid you not. They do them very nicely though.

Scare yourself stupid walking the levadas during the day, chill out in an authentic, 70's style restaurant at night. 😀

Honestly, if it had sandy beaches & more bike hire it'd be perfect.

Malaga airport then bugger off up into the Sierra Nevada, and/or go to Granada.

We've done two weeks in Portugal very successfully, used Lisbon as a base for urban / rural combo, town for a week with bit of self-catered countryside for a week (rent a studio apartment in town and small villa in country).

Sicily's still warm and has charm by the bucketload.

North Africa (Tunisia, Egypt) if you're happy to lounge and / or any female members are thick-skinned if you like to venture out.

Turkey, Greece...

Think you're pretty safe still in October for most of the southern Med basically.

+1 for Malaga / Granada - another successful trip. Was really very pleasantly surprised at how nice Malaga old town is. We just did a night on the way back to the airport but wished we'd spent a few days there.
