Just arrived in Wales for a weeks holiday in Beddgelert, I'm with the better half and baby but hoping to sneak off on the bike on a couple of days...
Can drive but closer is better, generally prefer natural stuff but heard tracks around Snowden might be off limits this time of year? Obviously quite a few trail centres in the area which I wouldn't rule out. Any recommendations very welcome.
Snowdon is fine to ride outside the hours between 10 AM and 5 PM, nothing to stop you pushing up before then though (although later is obviously going to be quieter. Marin Trail and Penmachno are both about 40 minutes drive, with Coed Y Brenin approx 1h20.
How far do you want to ride/drive?
Snowdon Ranger from Rhyd Ddu over to Llanberis puts you in the heart of things, loads of Snowdon, Dinorwic quarry options.
Llanberis and Betwys have lots of excellent off road riding, as above.
Most of the rest needs better knowledge and skillz than mine to avoid longer road links.
Loads of really good longer mixed terrain pootles and road riding from Beddgelert, if that's any use?
Nantlle Valley over to the Llyn is nice, as is Carnaerfon,
Brilliant for walking as well.
If you're using the Bikefax guidebook, be aware the Beddgelert forest route has changed a bit!
Snowdon Ranger > Telegraph valley to Llanberis.
Beddgelert forest has a couple of trails, of sorts.
Anturs not that far either
Thanks all. Snowden ranger and Telegraph looking like good options close by. Is Beddgelert forest itself worth a look? Only got the mountain bike here although some of the roads on the drive here made me wish I'd packed the road bike too.
"Coed Y Brenin approx 1h20"
On your bike? its only 25miles and a fast road.
Snowdon, Penmachno/marin, CyB. all good.
Antur, if you have 140mm+ of travel.
Yep CYB is less than 40 mins away from Beddgelert. Out and back on Snowdon Ranger path is really handy too.
