On Saturday looking for a 15 mile-ish ride within half hour drive of Canterbury. Any recommended places or is it worth travelling further? any suggestions welcome.
cheers
Have you got the March edition of Singletrack to hand? If so there are a few rides there within a 20min drive of C'bury. One of them goes right past the house I grew up in.
That part of Kent gives you (very) mildly rolling trails with a penchent for mud. Nothing too special but didn't do me any harm as a lad!
Round Wye was good when I were at uni there
Why not just ride from Canterbury?
You can get across the city in about 10 minutes by bike.
Yes, Wye features quite heavily in the Singletrack routes although you could always start further north and use Wye as a half way destination. The Bridleways (actually Boats but who'scouonting) from Crundale running south are alright and the view from Wye downs (used to be a cafe there) just above coldharbour farm where always pretty good.
lots of stuff round abouts, most of it up in blean/thornden woods and out towards dunkirk. Rough common is the place to start which is on the outskirts of canterbury.
failing that the wye/chilham/crundale loop is pretty nice.
some maps etc on http://www.kent-trails.co.uk/SEKent_Home.htm
Sorry but Driving from Canterbury to Rough Common to go for a ride
is taking the pi$$
Watch out for the slippery chalk.
I believe aride around Blean woods is your best bet. Kent Trails group (www.kent-trails.co.uk) are riding from Blean this saturday at 2pm.
I did a cracking ride around Kings Wood / Crundale / Wye last Tuesday night.
