The Foremark and Robins wood area is about the best there is I'm afraid linked in with Milton, Bretby, Staunton Harold and Little Scotland makes a good XC ride of mostly field edge bridleways but your not likely to be technically challenged

Some info from ST here

I have asked in a couple of places as i work in Measham and fancy some riding before work in the summer but there doesn't seem to be anywhere that (as above) is technically challenging. I'm better off going to Sutton Park before i leave home or Hopwas Woods on the way.

There is a local route in the ST trail guide here:
http://singletrackworld.com/trailguide/uk/east-midlands/east-midlands/

If you can get up to Ambergate on a Tuesday evening, then DVATC are a good friendly Club who go out every Tuesday night, and most Sundays.

Alan.

I used to do a lot of riding in Allestree park and up at Little Eaton woods as a yoof, also the Chevin trail between Belper and Duffield.

Cannock Chase is also fairly near, awesome riding there.

Sutton Park is good fun but it is by no means a tech fest. There are quite a few good little sections that can challenge you. There is also a nice little jump area if your into that sort of thing. I ride there most Thursday nights if you fancy meeting up for a ride to see how you like it.

Edit: The Chase is probably nearer to you and is bigger and harder than Sutton Park. I find it good to mix it up a bit and you can quickly get in to mileage double figures in the Park without realising.

I ride Cannock quite a lot and love it, I also like riding more natural terrain as well and get up to the peaks occasionally but it's a fair drive an an all day affair so would just be nice to find another local spot to mix it up a bit as I- ache says.

Speak to Christian at Lloyds Cycles in Swadlincote. They have a Thursday night ride as well from Bretby.

Paulo. Where you at? As stated before best natural stuff is over Ticknall way. I know some bits around Netherseal , Newton Burgoland and Packington. Finish off with a quick lap of Hicks Lodge and a brew at the cafe!

If you really know your way around near here, there's a good three hours of hilly, techie, rocky riding.

Wouldn't say it's hilly (peaks is up the road) but definately rooty and fun and very worthy of half a day exploring
