Hi all,
So we currently live in Swinton (Salford) in a rented house. I work in Stockport, the misses in Sale. We're in a position to begin looking for a house but struggling to find the right location. Budget is £150k, 3 beds minimum, some sort of garden, ideally a garage or room for a decent sized shed.
The one thing we both want is the opportunity to leave our front door and go for a walk or get out on bikes. We want something rural. Currently, I have to put the bike rack on the car, load the bikes then drive 30 minutes to Rivington Pike. I know its not a massive chore but having something on the doorstep would be far more inspiring. I'm not asking for the rolling hills of the Lakes, just something, anything!
Realistically, we won't be in the same jobs for the rest of our lives, but in the meantime it has to be commutable and changing jobs before getting the mortgage isn't an option. Consequently, we're very flexible when it comes to the location.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
New Mills
Disley / New Mills or anywhere in South East Manchester down the A6.
Just bear in mind the A6 is a horrid road for commuting down.
Either that or go near Riv, say Horwich and commute the other way?
Mellor.
Actually, you might struggle to get three bedrooms for 150k in Mellor unless it's a very small three bedroom cottage type thing.
Lovely place.
Thanks guys.
I'll take a look at South East Manchester. In the opposite direction, any thoughts on Rawtenstall and the Rossendale Valley in general? Any places to avoid? Is there good riding on the doorstep? Would it be a bad commute down the M66 and then onto the M60?
Cheers.

What sort of commute are you happy with?
Prestwich. But I'm not sure that you'll get anything for £150k.
I would look at any of the villages south of the M56 and A628... Then depending on how far you want determines if you go a far as Chester, south a Macclesfield or as east as Glossop.
Plenty of 3 bed properties around in nice enough areas though.
+1 for the mighty New Mills.
I currently work in Warrington which is a fair commute (about an hour each way, longer in bad traffic).
Two stations for nights out in Manc and the A6 isn't too bad as long as your out of peak hours although I often go via Marple which is sometimes quicker.
Three bed house should be easy with £150k.
....and the best bit there is great riding every way from your doorstep!
Macclesfield, you've got the forest there and a 20 min train ride into Manky Manc.

Plus you get to remember what it was like living in the 1980's 🙂
