[#9936627]

So I will be finished work around 1pm tomorrow in Warrington and I have the bike with me before heading home to North East, do I go to Llandegla (1hr drive but in the wrong direction), Gisburn (1hr 25 drive) or leg it to Whinlatter (2hr 10 drive, long way but never been yet, I know its crazy)

Trying to stick to trail centre for changing and the like. Alternative suggestions welcome!

Why waste time driving in the middle of the day? You could be at Rivington within 30 minutes.

Whinlatter..that way you are heading North and it's not that far out of your way ..and if you haven't been ..its about time you did ...also little chance of getting lost or wasting time wondering which way to go next ..

Of your three options, only Whinlatter makes sense.

However, just to confuse stuff more, Reeth (Swaledale) is no further away, and closer to home for you, and you can get changed/have a coffee at Dales Bike Centre, do a three/four hour loop.

If you do Degla, the premier of “A biggest slice” is on there today from 6.30pm.

may as well bob down to Degla seeing as though your in the area. id be wanting to maximise bike time and you'd get a full afternoon down there... personally id be looking at Wharni / Grenoside then an easy jib up the M1 after.

Hamsterley would be on his way home if he went via the A1 / A68 ..instead of M6 / A69..and it's a good call not just for the OP..but for anyone else who hasn't visited in the last year ..

The new K-line section leading into Transmission etc..is worth the visit all on its own ..( once is not enough ..)

Well in the end didn't leave Warrington till after 2 and ended up at Gisburn. Where an unscheduled interface with some slippy rootage and a log led to a couple of painful ribs, nonetheless a fun afternoon.

I must get to Whinlatter in the next few weeks, trouble is not much work in that direction for me and biking on the work clock is always the best of riding is it not?

Degla is back on the radar as is other northern Welsh riding as my customer at Bangor is looking for some visits.

Off to Sheffield area on 19/20th so will have a look at Grenoside.

cheers all.

I was at Gisburn about a week ago and many of the trails were like streams, never seen it so wet, made the mid Winter December visit look dry in comparison! Slippy everywhere, all my Strava times were down, roots nearly took me down many times, but never quite managed it, it felt really techy when it was that wet, even after going to Lee Quarry and Stiniog recently, Gisburn still didn't feel easy. Major sections of the top loop were closed - were they still closed or have they reopened yet ?

Anyone who goes to the lakes and decides to ride Whinlatter needs their head testing

Its not even a good trail centre never mind what you have , literally , on its doorstep

some bits still closed up top, i didnt really enjoy going round especially after the spill everything felt like a struggle.

There were a few puddles in places but it wasnt so bad. My lack of miles this year didnt help and a touch of terminal manflu

It felt hard to me as well, I managed one and a half laps. I usually have been doing 2 laps of 'the eight' plus all the black extras (dragons teeth, black graded climb and big foot slab ) but this time I could only possibly be arsed with one and a half, missed out the whole top loop the 2nd time round the eight, with all the closed sections etc not worth it, couldn't be arsed with the long fireroad diversion. It was fireroad all the way from The Hope Line climb all the way to where Whelstone cragg starts last week, was a lot of singletrack missed out by that diversion, the top loop was not worth it. Feet were so wet even with five tens impacts + sealskinz I had to take them off and change them to hiking boots and new pair of socks at the carpark between the first and second time round 'the eight', pain in the arse. This is despite having full mud huggers front and rear, and missing out a ton of singletrack via that fireroad diversion. Says a lot about how wet it is, I went round the whole thing twice in December and don't even remember getting wet.
