Hi

Trying to find gpx files for my Garmin before i head off to NZ next week. Looking for enduro trails on the South Island, rude rock and such like.

Tried trailforks but cant find gpx files to download, is anyone able to help?

Would quite like to head out there already semi prepared!!

Cheers

Andy

Not exactly what you asked for, but Kennett book is a good place to start.

Queenstown has some good maps and LBS is the place to ask.

Where else are you looking to go in the South Island? I am in NZ

If you're up the top of the South Island at some point a friend has a bike shop in Motueka, I believe there is a trail center type place nearby but he can probably give some suggestions

http://motuekabikeshed.co.nz/contact-us ride he did the other day has some interesting elevation and lines https://www.strava.com/activities/757180282

There's heap and heaps on threads on here discussing where to ride in NZ, I've contributed to them plenty.

For finding GPX files.... I dunno, I never used them. Most of the backcountry trails require so little navigational skills it wasn't ever really necessary. If you know where the trail is and have a map then there's often little to go wrong. Normally it'll be "hike up a trail for 3 hours, turn around and ride back down" or "go on this trail, after an hour, follow the sign for XX hut"

Rude rock etc. are all signposted.

Most other backcountry type trails are self-explanatory.

Get a mapping app - the NZ topomap data is free to use so there's lots of apps giving you access to (and ability to cache) the map tiles, legit and for free.

http://www.topomap.co.nz/

I still have my (Android) map app installed "New Zealand Topo Maps Free". Can't remember what the MRs used on iOS.

Thanks very much, all very helpful!

Signed up for strava premium for the 2 months, see how that works, good to know i can download some routes from that.

Jon Taylor - Thanks very much for your help, good to know most of the major stuff is signed.

Got a map on my garmin and downloading a couple of topo apps as i write, thanks very much for your help.

Cant wait now!
