Where's best for 'shimano S2' type pads (M485+6/525 etc) and is it worth the extra cash for genuine shimano ones? Superstar have organic/semi metallic which I guess would be ok with the rotors for c£4.50 a pair compared to c£12 for shimano.

Thanks

I've used sintered pads with no problems, but yes superstar and discobrakes work just as well.

It depends on many factors - ie whether you're riding wet gritty trails... etc. The shimano pads probably are the best as organic goes, but I haven't noticed any vast difference from EBC or SS pads, and sintered will always outlast organic.

I understand the reason Shimano label rotors like RT-51/53 as "resin only" is because they aren't hardened steel. So, if you use sintered pads with them they will wear faster, that's all.

Hi deepreddave,

I have a two new sets of Shimano resin pads for M485 still in the packaging, I'm sure they're called B01S. I bought them last year thinking I'd use them over the summer, ended up sticking with sintered. I paid £27 and that was discounted from my LBS.

I bought them as the original ones lasted a year, I go through sintered in half the time. TBH, I now ride a new hardtail with Hope brakes, so not much use for them.

If you want them, I'd accept £15 and that's posted. Email in profile.
