[#388566]

i have a set of 2007 Fox 36 Talas RC2 forks and after popping off the top seals it appears that the wipers are a little bit on the dry side and require some fluid.

What fox fluid is required and where do i get it from as CRC, Wiggle etc do not appear to stock any?

There's a chap on wiki called pdv or pvd. He's got a chat that shows the actually viscosity of various fork oils. From that, you can look up the fox stuff and see what it really is and buy it cheaper from a car or motorcycle shop. I think the 10 wt is silkolene amd the 7 wt is Torco.

I think Mojo recommend Float Fluid for the foam rings, it's different to the fork oil used in the lowers.

The site mentioned above makes some mention of float fluid being Torco assembly lube if I remember correctly. having said all that, the Talas 36 is a cartridge fork so you're really just talking about keeping the insides lubed rather than damping duties, in which case, almost anything is better than running them dry!

Maybe, but since the forks should be kept upside down does it really matter? Would the fluids not just mix?

Question i have is why do fox reccommend a quite light oil in the lowers (7wt) when other manufacturers use 15wt+. It would seem to me a heavier oil in the lowers would be better and help it 'cling' to the internals as the fork works.

Fox 7wt is Torco RSF Medium.

I have read of folk using sae 80 gear oil instead of float fluid. I just used the fork oil as its definitely better than dry foam rings.

stuartanicholson, heavier oil will mess up the damping.

To keep the foam rings lubed. Storing upside down lets the oil in the lowers run down and soak the rings.
