[#12928686]

I haven't ridden my mtb in nearly a year. ๐Ÿ™

I finish work early this afternoon.

My family is away for the day.

I'm free.

Free!

FREEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have between roughly 1 and 6 to get out somewhere. The bestest ride possible... but where? Bearing in mind my fitness is shot.

Local trails? Fine for 2 hours, maybe 3, pushing it for this amount of time though.

Lee Quarry? 30-40 minute drive away, this is acceptable. Not been since last May/June. Definitely the best option so far.

Llandegla? Too fay away, want to go there one day though, never been.

Peaks somewhere? Probably not enough time.

Any good suggestions?

Based in North Manchester.

Which are the local trails you mention?

You could do four hours at Rivi without getting bored, if you know where the trails are.

More if you pedal over to the Nab and Great Hill as well, but if you're unfit you probably won't need to.

Philips Park?

Nothing technical but close enough for you.

Of you're feeling fit then Rivington isn't too far away.

Rivington's a good idea, never been there on the bike either so don't know the trails but daresay I could find something.

Local trails are Philips Park and surrounding area (Drinkwater, Clifton etc). Or Clayton Vale near the other Philips Park. I'm in Salford.

What sort of riding are you looking for?

I ride around Holcombe a lot and there's nice XCish pootling and steep AF woodsy slithering to be had in abundance -- depends on what you're after really.

Lee Quarry would be good in that it's all waymarked and navigable but I find Lee/Crag tend to puddle up quite easily and we had quite a goodly amount of rain yesterday ๐Ÿ˜

Hmm. Wonder if I could do this in the time.

Um... probably classified as "not too boring XC". Or trail centre fun type, though not too jumpy. Exciting downhills.

I dunno. Good fun traditional mtb without too much pain!

The mag also did a Rivi "Classic Ride" a little while back:

I did part of that when I was up there and it was very much underwhelming, ok to get out, but not amazing. You could see there were more tracks that looked fun, but if you dont know, you dont know

Did the first loop of that ride linked above in the end (From Rivi barn out to Healey Nab and back).

Had a good time, up to the Pike next time ๐Ÿ™‚

Healey Nab trail was fun, if small. Tried the black and chickened out of the first drop, the drop itself looked ok but landing into a rock garden looked like death! Hadn't seen another soul in the area and didn't fancy lying there after having broken both wheels, both ankles and all of my elbows.

You can roll it as slow as you need to.

The trails there seem to have got tighter as bikes have got longer. I'm sure I used to launch that drop, but it feels like the next corner is too close now.

Yes, I may have got less brave ๐Ÿ˜€
