Hodgynd - recognise all those places. There was a plan to make a MTB trail from those lime kilns to the quayside - do you know if anything came of it?

Bloody awful ride over Darwen tower on Saturday. The snow was all ontop of wet slush which made it really tough.

Usual ride out from home and a lap of Rivvi, trying to keep my ever worsening knees moving.

Aye, Instantly recognisable photos makes for an interesting interpretation of "total stealth mode / silent running". Nothing too cheeky apart from straight past the castle though. RE the "mtb trail" - I never heard anything about that, there is though a road route down to the staithes on the Tyne that follows the old route that lead was carried. Not sure about any publicity or signage but it definitely exists and is definitely tarmac. Quick search for it found this.

That's right. I think it was an idea of the fella that did the Sandstone Way but not sure if it got further than an idea.

My mate cancelled the sat ride because of the snow. Went up a local hill to get a snowy scene, no scenery to be seen, wee bit of snow though

😉
It's the bits that you can't see from the pics ..as far as the stealth mode goes if you know parts of where we have ridden that's fine but quite a bit was on footpath which I wouldn't want to publicise too much ..
As far as the route map goes ..I know that there is a cycle route as far as Wylam ..but nothing beyond that ..at least to my knowledge...it would be great if there was..
You will be talking about Ted Liddle there Paul..apparently he has just published some new routes recently but I haven't seen him for a couple of years.

Yes I mean Ted. I'll have to see if I can find what he's published then.

Managed a quick local ride, just in now and my toes are remembering warmth. Hardy is the January cyclist.

Couple of hours up to the forest and back. Snow was like powder on the tops, really lovely crumpy crisp tyre noise and then arse freezing slush on the way back down. Brrrrrr. Ice on me helmet when I got home too.

Well we got out in the snow 😀 Went for a 20km ride in the Dales, by heck it were hard work! Basically soft snow on top of mud until you got on the tops, one climb that's normally an easy 30mins took an hour of real effort.

Normally this field is a blast but we were in bottom gear pedalling downhill 😳

Probably all slush now 😥
