I keep hearing mention of the 2010 bikes, so I was wondering when the 2009 bikes will start to get discounted. Any speculation as to whether discounts will be more/less than previous years?

So much for the credit crunch then! Not a bad thing.
Next year prices are set for a BIG increase.
A lot of traditional price points will either be abandoned or severely down specced.
This makes a lot of the current stuff look like a good buy even at full price, so whether there will be as much discounting as previous years remains to be seen.
Rutland Cycling are already reducing their Konas.
Merlin already doing massive discounts on Metas.

After last years price rises and the drop in the economy/exchange rates/prices of raw material dropping, how can they do this? Should be going down not up.
Metas seem to have lost their flavour of the month status recently, or is that just me? I am actually looking for a road bike at the mo...
I think the price rises happened after the 2009 bikes came out?!
Is this like the travel companies saying things like "you'd better book early" "there won't be any late availability this year" "prices will rise as the year goes on" yada, yada, yada?

Popular 2009 bikes are few and far between, there wont be much discounting going on unless shops have overstocks of slow selling models.
2010 prices look to be 10-15% up, so, grab a 2009 model before it's too late, or pay the extra for the latest bling!

A mix of reasons why prices may go up next year, materials forward ordered on contracts that have know expired and been renegotiated at higher rates, the Pound is still weak, fuel prices are rising again, raw material prices are beginning to climb again.
As for selling out, bike manufacturers only import what they think they can sell, if they think they will sell 100 units then they will import 100 units, if 100 units sell they can then choose to import more or hold off until the next year. Manufacturers aren't in the business of selling bikes off cheap at the end of the year. If they do it is because they f***ed up.
There was a lot of talk of reduce sales so i suspect manufacturers imported smaller volumes this year, so the discounts may or may not appear, no different to any other year.
I have been told by one manufacturer that some of the Tiawanese factories have been hammered, unsold stock, refused deliveries etc.
Its unlikely there will be big discounts, we can't get stock of key models at the moment and looks that way for the rest of the 'year'.
No discounts on things in short supply!
Plus - waiting for new model? Start saving for the increased prices.
your lucky to be able to get stock at full price, let along get something discounted at the end of the year!
There's still a load of 2008 bikes around being discounted

That's just a couple near me so I'm sure there's lots more
Think about how much Shimano prices have increased this year? That alone will push the costs up to manufacturers, which are likely to only be felt for 2010.
The new S-Works Stumpy is £5500, that's a £1000 increase on 2009 and a £1500 increase on 2008!
